it's another windy day!

yesterday we had crazy wind again - 80-90km/phr (40-50mph)! the whole Manor shook all night Wednesday night, all day Thursday, all night last night and is finally down to just a dull roar now. but we didn't lose our power at all - thanks Nova Scotia Power!

yesterday we had a "flumping" day - we read, watched some movies, ate, napped, snacked and napped some more. it was way too windy to do any outdoor chores and although there are a ton of indoor chores to be done, we decided to say screw it and "flump" around together.

today we spent the day making approximately 8 quarts of chili to bring to the New Year's Dance tomorrow night. we made yummy-stick-to-your-ribs-full-of-meat chili...made with crushed tomatoes, whole tomatoes, kidney beans, navy beans, 2lbs of hamburger, half a pound of bacon and mushrooms. i also snuck in some vinegar with the mother in it, a large dollop of honey and several cloves of garlic. and a bucketload of chili powder. i am bound and determined to get these people here to eat more healthily!

tomorrow we will make 40 miniature dinner rolls to serve with the chili. i have recently found an awesome dinner roll recipe...the rolls come out all buttery, fluffy and light. if anyone is interested i will post the recipe on our recipe blog.

i have been trying to stay on top of everyone's blogs over the holidays...if for some reason i have missed any of your posts or haven't stopped by your blog in a while - leave a holler in the comment section here and i will skedaddle right on over.

i promise pics of the porch coming soon - it's just been too windy this past few days.

we'll be heading off to the New Year's Dance tomorrow. if we don't get a chance before then to wish you all a Happy New Year's Day...then we will do so now. Happy 2012! 2012 is sure going to be interesting...and we look forward to hanging out with you all through all of it. there is still much to be done here at the Manor, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

here's a pic of one of our beautiful sunsets from the other night...it's wonderful isn't it?

  2. Blackeyed peas are on my horizon. The way I make them is absolutely no seasoning! We have to have our good luck. That is some powerful wind you are having. Brrr, the kind of wind that drives the cold through to bones. Have fun at the party.

  3. LOL, I wished I had a dollar for every argument and debate I have had on chili and what is in it. Even some of my own native Texans have a different kind of chili that is really not chili.
Being you made it and you are eating it, you can call it whatever you want and I bet it is good but in my neck of the woods, it ain't chili. LOL
I hope y'all have a happy New Year and I think I might have a flop day on Sunday. What better way to start a new year than to be lazy.

  4. Jen - i am trying to sneak in healthiness whenever and wherever i can! these people eat lots of healthy seafood but they hate fresh veggies and stuff...so i sneak - bahahah!

i would love your chili recipe as my friend MDR has let me know in no uncertain terms that what i am making is not proper Texas chili - again - bahahahah!

i hope that 2012 brings health and happiness to everyone at the Double Nickel...you guys have always been our inspiration and have never let us down. we love you guys Jen!

MDR - dude - buddy - ya gotta let me know what you Texans call chili so that i can fix my recipe pronto (if it's good - bahahahah!)

  6. Believe it or not, Sweet Lady, I once upon a time, a long time ago, won a blue ribbon for my chili...it cooked for four days. It kills most of the elderly, all wussies, and leaves women and children in tears.
Your weather sounds wonderful to me. I'd enjoy a day of wind and rain just because I'd love to sit around and drink coffee and read.
I sincerely hope you guys have a great time at the party. Stay safe, keep jamie out of trouble this year.
    Your friend,
    Stephen

  8. Rob - vinegar with the mother in it is the best kind of fermented food that you can eat - it is full of probiotics and actually helps heal your stomach flora. if you can't find it at your grocery store, go to a health food store and ask them if they stock it. i put vinegar with the mother into everything we eat - it is sooo very good for you!

and Rob - a very Happy New Year to you and all of yours! i look forward to your posts in 2012!

Stephen - i must have that recipe! MUST!!!! and yes - when we have days like this we always take a load off and "flump"! we will have a great time at the party and i promise to keep the man out of trouble this year! i wish you, Sweet Wife and Little Bit a very Happy New Year! thank you, my friend!

Russell - yep - people make chili using all sorts of things these days! i make it the way my Mom made it when we were growing up and we love it! Happy New Year buddy!

Mr. Smythe - we have lovely sunsets and sunrises every single day - and we are always catching our breath when we watch them! i hope that 2012 is a great year for you too, Sir!

Phelan - all the best to you and yours in 2012, me darlin'!

thank you all for stopping by!
