remember about 2 years ago when a beaver family moved in to strachan's brook and created strachan's ocean and a whole new lake? it looked like this:
we loved it and because a lot of the water was re-directed and it created a lake right in front of our rocking chairs and jambaloney even went fishing in it!
you can imagine our surprise when we woke up the other morning and saw this!
we were horrified and afraid that someone had gone and destroyed the beaver dam. jambaloney went down to see and it looked like someone had just dug a channel through the dam. but beavers being the smart animals that they are, have already started rebuilding their dam!
here's what strachan's brook looked like yesterday:
jambaloney who knows a lot about animals and their habitats had told me not to worry. he knows that if a family of beavers has built themselves a nice home and have access to a lot of good trees to eat that they will just keep rebuilding the dam over and over. i am worried though that the someone who broke the dam will keep doing it and then eventually go and destroy the beavers house. i hope not.
how about some yummy kimchi burgers? i made kimchi the other day and still had kimchi paste (fresh garlic, fish sauce, grated carrot, grated dailon radish and korean red pepper powder) left over so i mixed the paste in with the ground beef and put a big hunk of kimchi under each burger. i also made wasabi mayonnaise as the spread.
they were delicious!!!
for this morning's birthday breakfast (i turned 45! woohoo!) i had my favourite - chips from homegrown potatoes and poached eggs - deelish!
we spent the morning cleaning the house, doing some laundry and for the rest of the day we will just hang out. and for birthday supper - a ton of tempura - bring it on!!!
Many, many Happies, lumber :)
ReplyDeleteSynchronicity - we had for dinner what you had for breakfast ;)
Hope the rest of your special day is all, and more, than you hope for.
Happy Birthday, Kymber! A great time to celebrate your entrance into this wonderful thing called life. Enjoy it! Blessings to you both.

If it's private property, maybe the landowner has other plans for the land.
ReplyDeleteor maybe the bureau of wildlife could protect them.
Deletemost of the good land ,we are told, came from beavers building dams that silted up, thus the prevalence of the name 'beaver lea' [beverley].
hey, kymber,
i love kimchi. sis-in-law is korean. one of the best cooks in the world.
i am glad that jam is reassuring about the persistence of the beaver clan.
Maybe the beavers were just changing out the water?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could try beaver burgers if they don't build your pond back for ya?
