lotsa fishing!

jambaloney here!

i can't believe it has been a month - time flies...esp when you are constantly tormented by flies - kymber and i and everyone here is suffering immensely....  all waiting for at LEAST the blackfliesto end - right now is the worst - hordes of blackflies and hordes of deerflies .it is on onslaught from sun-up to sundown.. bendryll and deet help - but sometimes 5 mins outside and another 15-20 bites.. it will make you sick.

so we have had a few sick days and been busy busy - soooo... it has been a month.. june is tip-top fishing so i have some pics!! lots for both pp and sandy and scifi so play nice and share!!!

june 21 -  this was a cool semi-cloudy morning

 water was calm..

up the creek mouth i went. canoes are pretty awesome ;-)

on the way back - the sun and clouds were doing some pretty amazing stuff on the surface of the river!

really amazing

more..

 a real treat!

and 3 nice trout - YUM!!!!!

june 22 - you have seen pics of strachan's brook many times on our blog - in the evening i often spot trout surfacing - so i decided to give it a shot!

on with the hip-waders and down the driveway!

across the road and over the embankment - what fun..

uh, yeah ;-))

we have noticed that over the years, the brook has been  slowly flooding the land right across form us - the bridge on the road has one culvert with steady flow... i think it is cutting a bigger furrow - the trees are slowly dying/drowning..

then again - this critter might be contributing too - i often see he/she swimming about..

okay - i am up to my lower chest and getting BIT TO F*** by blackflies!!!!!

 it IS pretty!!

40 mins - 5 nice trout - once a month i will visit so as not to over-fish the stillwater out! k and i are feasting on trout at this point!!

2 days later, june 24 - 5:45 AM

just past the solstice and the sun is already up in the sky..

dew abound - the air is pretty cool...

yeah, i know - more spiderwebs - heck - i think they look pretty nifty!!

down near the river - carnivorous plants - this  is a sundew....

and a pitcher plant..

this is the flower of a pitcher plant..

nice sunrise.. you can see the mist on the water...

the air is cool but the sun bright - it is hot and cold at the same time!!

more mist..
back up the brook ..

okay - after 4 years, i don't know how many times i have paddled over this - the butt of a gun, no steel left - LOL!

and a great catch!!

awesome sunset the other night..(just over strachen's brook)

awesome!

hope you are all having a great summer so far!!
cheers!

  2. It's really beautiful up there, but the flies biting sounds like a plague. I know from watching some of Les Stroud's shows filmed in Canada that those are a problem in lots of the forests up there. Here we just have mosquitoes but not in those numbers.

    1. hey harry!

sure is beautiful - the plague will be over in 2 weeks - after that only deerflies and not so bad at that..

most of the Canadian Shield is blackfly ridden - i have seen way worse in northern ontario, but the season here is longer - once gone, summer is a treat!

we get a few mosquitoes here but not many - thank god!

      hope you are well friend!

  3. I think you caught enough trout for all us on those trips :)

I have a bit of experience living around Northern waterways and the flies were terrible. I can only imagine what you guys are going through.

  4. Jambaloney,

Wow......love all the beautiful pictures of my favorite place Canada. You and Sweet Kymber have such a beautiful place with all this amazing water to fish on. We need to crank up the fire and have some of that awesome looking fish. I know SCI has the pea's, PP has the honey, and I have the salad and strawberries. We all will be there in a hop, skip, and a jump..........:P:P

I hear if you wear light colored clothing like white or tan the flies pretty much leave you alone.

Apparently it's a common thing the black fly up in Canada, they breed with moving water. Making it very difficult to stop reproduction. I know the flies don't like the colder climate, maybe your temperatures will drop a bit making it comfortable to you both to be outside.

Take care and thanks for sharing great pictures.
Sending hugs and love to you and Sweet Kymber.
    Sandy
P.S. Please tell Kymber I sent her the recipe via e-mail.

you are welcome ANYTIME - and yes, bring our friends!!

there is some truth to the light colored clothing, but the real culprit is CO2 emissions - and when you have 100s of hungry flies, they will overlook the clothing colour in a blink.. we have a nice swift creek on teh border of our land - blech!!!

      hugs back to you!
      your friend,

  5. Nice fish'n Jam. I'm going to make it up there someday and we can go out and catch some more!

We have yellow flies down here for about a month and they just recently went somewhere else. You can't go for a walk or jog around the neighborhood with out those things following you and biting and I mean biting bad.

  7. Whoa, I loved this post. Every picture seemed more magic than the last. And speaking of last, although I love the water and cloud pics that sunset is something else!
Looks like there is plenty of trout to share to me! PP , Sandy has a great idea! You bring the honey, I'll bring some of my Amish Bread and purple hull peas and Sandy always has the best salad's and desserts! Now wouldn't that be fun. Except for the blackflies.... I don't know how you guys can stand it. I know I'd be almost scared to go out. I lived on a bayou once upon a time and the mosquito's were horrific.
Sending hugs to you and kymberz,
    Sci

  8. Lovely fish! Lovely skies!

The mosquitos have been thick here this year, but I don't think I've complained about the blackflies once. It's a welcome change! Good luck in your recovery. I don't know what I would have done without kymber's benadryll advice a few years ago!
