another beautiful day!

jambaloney took this picture this morning at about 6am....i find it so serene to see my little house, my greenhouse and trees. this picture gives me peace and comfort - we really are home!

a good way to start your day - korean pancake for breakfast! we love korean pancake! it is traditionally served as breakfast in korea, as well as being served as an appetizer before dinner or supper.

traditional korean pancake is flour, water with an egg beaten into it, green onions and grated carrot. you can add anything you like to it - zucchini, mushrooms, cabbage - anything at all! we love it with a ton of green onions in it - yummeh! the dipping sauce is half a tblspn of sesame oil, one tblspn of soya sauce and one tbslpn of rice wine vinegar. the rice wine vinegar cuts the saltiness of the soya sauce and adds a real vinegry punch! we love it!

how about garlic scapes as art? isn't this beautiful???

once your garlic has produced scapes, it starts putting energy into the flower and seeds. if you want your garlic, the root, to spend more energy on developing it's cloves, then you cut the scapes. we were going to have these for supper, but they are so pretty i put them in a vase with water to enjoy for a few days. these are delicious sauteed with butter.

and here is my new kitchen cabinet - isn't she a beaut?!?!!?

i love it and it will give me much-needed space in the kitchen to store stuff. right now we have the dehydrator, the juicer and the foodsaver on our dresser in the bedroom - jeesh eh?

jambaloney yet again came through on building a much-needed piece for our house and to make our lives easier! i love that man! tomorrow i will show you where it is going in the kitchen.

we went for a walk down to the river and had dips twice today. it was wonderful and so refreshing! we made a promise to ourselves a few weeks ago that we would walk down and back to the river every day - rain, sleet, hail, snow - whatever! we are going to be postal workers and go everyday regardless of the weather! it is great excercise as the river is a quarter of a mile away. a walk down and back each day will be a half a mile walk. today, because we went twice is a mile walk. if we do it everyday, even in the winter - it will be great excercise! going down the road to the river is a pretty steep downhill slope - that works particular muscles. but coming back up that steep road really forces you to march. we love walking to our river regardless of excercise. but as we are getting older, we are in our 40's, we think that in combination with the various work that we do, regular dancing together and stretching and excercising - plus our daily walk - that will keep us fit and healthy.

we love walking to the river! and we'll take all of you with us!

  2. I'm glad you are not in Australia, I am sure the salt water crocodiles would gobble you both up.

Have you ever eaten Kemchi? It's vegetables pickled in garlic sauce. Taste great, smells awful.

  4. When people actually work, do physical work, there is still a need for walking but not for a full exercise routine. if more people did physical work, there would be no need for gyms. I suppose all these breaks give you a goal to work for and something pleasurable to look forward to.

That is a spectacular cabinet! It looks just right for holding the things in your bedroom. My microwave and dehydrator are just eating up a section of my counter. I want a cabinet on wheels to hold the dehydrator to regain my counter space. I have the wheels!

    1. Linda - you are so right! if you do lots of physical work in your yard or on your house regularly, like the old-timers did - there would be absolutely no need for gyms and such. but most people live the 9-5 life and therefore need the gym. we have the best of all worlds because we work on our yard, our garden and our house every day - plus we stretch together and dance together regularly - it is soooo much fun, plus it is exercise!

Linda - thank you about the cabinet. i soooo need the space and he worked his butt off making it - and it is such a pleasure to have someone recognize his hard work - which you always do - and always so positively - you don't know what that means to him and to me, thank you Linda. i have said it many times - but i really do mean it.

my Lord how i wish we were closer. he would take 2 days a week to go and help you out with your chores. and all he would ask in return is that you feed him some of your delicious home-made meals!!!

    2. I am really appreciative of anyone/men who can do so many things. My father was like that. Ex could not use a hammer. I am in awe of anyone with skills. I actually like to watch guys work. Of course, if a woman were working, I would watch that, too.

Heidi, a prof friend, invited R who owned every tool under the sun, another professor who owned tools, and me to her house to hang bi-fold doors. Now, none of had ever done this, but we took the directions and did it, not a large feat, I know. We even cut off the doors with a saw and reassembled hardware on the bottom. The funny thing was that Heidi was on the phone, having a drink and smoking a cigarette when we all just stopped and looked at her. She got off fast! Then, she cooked our dinner.

Yes, profs will work for food. One prof is dead, the other prof is ill, and the R has to work three jobs.

Okay, just thinking about women doing construction/remodeling work.

Now, if I only could find someone closer who is willing as J.

My meals are definitely different from yours, but people enjoy what I serve.

    3. Linda - i like watching people work, too. i try to watch jam when he is working but he is usually working and i am doing something else like washing dishes or making food, etc. but i take lots of breaks to go out and see what he is doind - i am learning a lot about building things from him.

we really wish that we were closer because he really would come over and give you some help.

  5. You can never have too much storage space in the kitchen! I have a project nearing the top of my list to make some sort of shelving for all those occasionally used kitchen gadgets that can't fit in our kitchen.

  6. I love seeing properties in the mist. It makes them look so inviting. That's a lovely photo of your homestead.

I'm so excited about your new kitchen cabinet. It will be really nice to be able to store your appliances in the kitchen, instead of your bedroom. :-)
