well...it was spring....for a day!

arghghghghghgh! ok - i had to get that off my chest.

now on to the post. yesterday was awesome! gorgeous and sunny! since i already planted my tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse INSIDE the house on april 10, i thought it was time to get some stuff planted in the OUTSIDE greenhouse. and woohoo - i planted a bucket-load of lettuce and a whole pile of brassicas.

the day was beautiful - check it out! and check out jambaloney's new thingie-ma-bobs that he is building to keep cats out of raised beds, as well as birds, as well as having an easy way to cover beds with plastic when the torrential rains come.

did you notice that there is no snow on the ground. well, there is one tiny piece but i will show it to you later. anyway, it was an awesome, sunny day and we reveled in being unclothed and working in the greenhouse together!

that's four trays of a variety of heirloom, mesclun lettuces that we will be enjoying soon!

the blue things you see below are old water jugs cut in half and they are filled with a variety of lettuces that i will transplant in mid-may. jambaloney got them from the garbage. and all those little president choice pots, jambaloney got in the garbage. i swear i love that man.

i am starting a variety of brassicas in the pots which will also be transplanted in mid-may - woohoo. and because i know that a bunch of you love seeing little planted pots and pots of other stuff, here's another pic - bahahahahah!

we took a break for some gorgeous liver with onions and bacon, a little side salad and some peas and corn - just what we needed to keep working for the rest of the day!

i was on such a roll yesterday with the planting and being naked in the greenhouse, and jambaloney was building those thingie-ma-bobs...i just had to take a pic of our last chunk of snow.

i was all "hey you chunk of snow. you can stay there until you melt. i won't even bother breaking you up with a shovel. you just take all the time you need buddy!"

and then i woke up to this, this morning.

arghghghghghghghghghghghhgghgh! please someone make it go away!!!!!!

  1. I feel your pain. Saturday we didn't wear our coats at all. It was so nice. Yesterday it was so cold, that we had to bundle up and have the heat on. Its going to be cold all week, then after Easter it warms up again. Did I read that you have pot plants too. Can't you get in trouble with the RCMP?? You too are the King & Queen of recycling. ;)

  2. That chunk of snow called in the reinforcements didn't it. See you should have put on those boots you always write about but never post a picture of and stomped it into water vapor and it wouldn't have been able to make the call :)

    1. you know PP - you are 100% correct and you know that i hate to admit it - bahahahah! but how was i to know that the chunk of snow had a cellphone to call in re-inforcements??? we don't even get cell coverage here so now i am starting to worry that the chunk of snow is actually one of those crazy drones or something. i need more tinfoil.

    1. no worries about that Mr. Smythe. we go out to the greenhouse in our hottub bathrobes and then take them off. even on a somewhat overcast day the greenhouse gets up to at least 20C - our favourite kind of weather for losing the robes! bahhahaha!

  4. It is raining here today, steady and fairly hard, but it's not cold, thank God. You are really going to town on your garden, I haven't had a chance to till up the soil for our garden, it won't stay dry long enough.

    1. Harry - the greenhouse has been a godsend in that we can start so much stuff so early! this year is gonna rock in our garden. our last frost free date is the beginning of june so i normally can't put anything in the ground until then. right now we have a big giant stand with plants that we cover with plastic in the evening when the sun starts going down. on a cold night the greenhouse will get down to about 10C but the plastic wrapped stand stays at about 18C! the greenhouse is really working out for us. sorry for all that rain - it really causes havoc when trying to till up the garden!

  5. Sweet Kymber,

I so feel your pain on the snow!!! This morning it was snowing here, were are to expect freezing weather tomorrow morning. The snow came down quick with big white flakes but didn't stay on the ground. So I was outside covering my garden beds with plastic and buckets (fully clothed, not naked like you two). After tomorrow, I'll be back out there uncovering everything.
    Stay warm!
    Your Friend,
    Sandy

  6. What ever happened to global warming up there?
Tell you what why don't you and Jam come down here for a couple weeks and lay on the beach soaking up some sun while waiting for the snow to go away? And no need to bring any winter coats with, 70'sf and 80'sf this time of year.

  8. April is the Cruelest, isn't it? Last night I had to put all of my tomatoes & peppers & tobacco back into the little walk up greenhouse on account of the rain, wind & cold (35F) temps. Ugh. They so want to be in the ground!

    Good luck!

  9. I'm sorry =( My husband and I suffered through what we called the "endless" winter about three years ago, but it was followed by one of the most gorgeous summers ever. Hang in there. I'll pray that this is your very last snow for the year.
