Happy American Thanksgiving!

i know that American Thanksgiving isn't until tomorrow...and that some people will be celebrating on the weekend...but we decided to do our American Thanksgiving today. (we did 3 Canadian Thanksgiving Dinners in a row in October - but who could ever have enough Thanksgivings????)

and isn't it a beautiful day to celebrate?!?!?? absolutely gorgeous out there today!

so why are celebrating American Thanksgiving today? because tomorrow, friday, saturday we are expecting super gorgeous weather and will not want to be heating up the house with cooking. plus, with the turkey and all the fixins being ready today - it means we can eat leftovers for the next few days and truly enjoy the last gorgeous days of autumn!

i already made the giblet soup - my favourite part of turkey dinner - except for gravy - i looooove gravy! but i love my giblet soup, too! after we made the giblet soup and had a delicious bowl each....then it was on to the stuffing. then we stuffed the bird. and put the bird in the oven. in about 4 hours we are going to be gorging on turkey and all the fixins - yummeh - i can barely wait!

so far this is not looking like a "SciFiChick kind of Thanksgiving". fingers crossed. but this morning when i was checking my email for an email from my sister Helga - i noticed that in our bloglist that SciFiChick had a post up about her messing up their Thanksgiving meal last year. and as i had also messed up our Thanksgiving last year - that's why i called last year's dinner a "SciFiChick kind of Thanksgiving".

jeesh, Sci, i sure do hope you didn't jinx me with your latest post - bahahahahahaha!

anyway - so far it's looking like a pretty awesome day. we will get in the hottub, take many walks, read some awesome books that my sister Helga sent us, prep the carrots, turnip, brussel sprouts, smashed potatoes, and of course, gravy - and then we will be stuffing our faces for the rest of the day!

and saying Grace and giving thanks. we have so much to be thankful for. not the least of which is all of our wonderful friends that we have made here on this dumb little blog.

we will be thinking of you all. and stuffing our faces - teehee.

Happy American Thanksgiving to everyone!

  4. Kymber,

NOT a dumb little blog. If you did not scribble your antics I would have never met you two. And that would have been my loss. Your commentary has allowed so many of us to get to know you. You two qualify as National Treasures.

May you bite the turkey and not the reverse. Hugs to you both.

  9. I will have to check out the tragic Thanksgivings. Three days of nice weather with leftovers seems perfect to me.

We have giblet gravy only. Yes, I can eat it like soup. I make brown gravy with browned flour and oil and cooked turkey "juice." It's been years since I put giblets in my giblet gravy. I put sage and chopped boiled eggs. I love chopped boiled eggs in brown gravy with sage. It is still giblet gravy to me. I can eat it like soup.

J, I thought you left two comments, but can only find one now, so if I deleted one, sorry, and put it back if you will.

  11. Enjoy all your good eats! Never have had giblet soup. Enjoy your lovely weather, we are expecting heavy winds and rain and we've already have some rain mixed with snow today. Lucky for us, we don't have to travel this year, dinner is at our house!

    1. we enjoyed Rose. giblet soup is delicious...well only if you like organ meat. you start by chopping up the neck into bits and pieces. brown the neck pieces in butter and when the neck pieces are almost finished, throw in your chopped up liver, kidneys and heart. once those are browned, add your homemade broth, scrape up all the browned stuff on the bottom, add a clove or two of garlic, splash of apple cider vinegar and add slivered celery. let it simmer for a good hour and then add chopped parsley - i swear - it's delicious!

wow snow already???? dang! but i am glad that you didn't have to travel and i hope that you had a fantastic day with your family!

    1. Phyllis - no worries - there was plenty of bacon for the brussel sprouts! in fact, after i fried the bacon and drained the majority of the pan...i added butter and that's what i fried the brussel sprouts in. and then re-added the bacon. yummeh. the brussel sprouts and bacon were the first of the leftovers to disappear. happy thanksgiving to you too chickenmom!

  13. Sweet Kymber and Jambaloney,

Thank you for the beautiful Thanksgiving wishes. I like the idea of celebrating Thanksgiving multiple times :-)
The best part of Thanksgiving, left overs. You don't have to cook for days. Giblet soup, oh my......now that sounds delicious.
I told everyone in our home, there is no watching what you eat tomorrow. Indulge on this day, watch football if you can and relax with your family/loves ones.
Right now, I'm baking all kinds of rolls for tomorrow and weeks to come. Pies are all done baking, and tomorrow morning I start the stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turkey, gravy, and green beans. Then by mid afternoon, it will be time for a fabulous family meal. Even though you already had Thanksgiving in Canada, I wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving.
    Sending hugs your way.
    Your Friend,
    Sandy xxooxx
