another Frankie update

jambaloney and little Frankie are home. he is doing really good. the ladies at the hospital said he was such a good little man and they oohed and awwwed over him because he is so gorgeous. jambaloney put him in his carrier, he slept the whole way home. we got him in the house and he immediately wanted to go out. he went out on the back deck, his brothers went with him and so did we. we all sat out on the back deck for 20 minutes or so - just breathing the fresh air and looking at the beautiful sky. he ate - but they told us to feed him only a little - ya right. and then, when he has a million different comfortable places to go and sleep - he chose to sleep on this secretary desk. he doesn't even fit on it. but that's where he has been for the last 3 hours. he almost fell off at one point but caught himself and went right back to sleep.

he's gonna be out all night running around. he is such a tough little guy. i am going to continue feeding him as much as he wants to eat until he starts putting on some weight. the ladies at the hospital said that he is in as good shape as he can be expected being that he is a stray. jambaloney asked about vitamin shots but they said he didn't need anything. we also paid extra to have laser castration as it cauterizes the nerve endings while cutting and the cut is much smaller and heals quicker.

as for poor jambaloney - ugh. he had quite the day and didn't tell me about it until he got home - he knew that my nerves were shot and he didn't want to add to that.

while driving into the city he heard a funny sound which he thought was a piece of metal stuck in the tire tread. after dropping off little Frankie he looked at both front tires and under the wheels and he saw on the passenger side a cracked casing and a loose wire. he used his phone to find the nearest dealer and it turned out to be a problem with the 4WD Vacuum Actuator. thank goodness when we bought the truck we bought a 5yr extended warranty so this was covered. our actual dealer is in the town an hour the OTHER way away from us but these guys said that they could take care of it. jambaloney explained that he had to pick up little Frankie and the guys dropped everything and took care of it right away. they also fixed the other side...buddy told him that they usually blow in pairs. all for $100 deductible. the job would normally cost $425!!! jambaloney still had plumbing stuff to pick up at Home Depot - he asked the guy if there was a bus nearby that he could take. they take him in their shuttle bus for free. AND picked him up.

as jambaloney is telling me all of this i can only imagine how panicked he must have been, then grateful and then relieved. he says that he loves cape breton - that we get some of the best servicse in the world here. i always remembered that when i left home 25 years ago - i always remembered that people here cared and did their jobs very well. it makes my heart swell when jambaloney, who grew up in the city, tells me this. i am glad that i came home. i am glad that i brought him and my two boys here. i am glad that little Frankie is still sleeping on the secretary desk.

i give thanks to the Lord. i am trying to be as grateful as i can be.

That probably would have hurt Frankie's tender area if he fell off the desk. That would be one time that watching a sleeping cat fall off it's perch would not be funny.

    1. PP - you said it. jambaloney said that when he first saw the wire and stuff dangling, that his heart sank. we had been through a few days of not knowing whether our cats were going to let him in the house, we were nervous, we had to put projects on hold - and then something is wrong with our beautiful truckdura?!??!!? his nerves were shot going to the dealership. they told him not to worry, they'd have the truck ready for when Frankie was ready, took him where he needed to go shopping and then brought him back with a fixed truck and plenty of time to pick up Frankie. it ended up being a very good day.

  4. That cat is beautiful and he ended up exactly where he should be. All three of our "boys" are rescues of some sort, saved as kittens from certain death, now they have great homes and lots of love. I believe everything unfolds just as it's supposed to. Frankie is HOME. :-)

  6. Sweet Kymber,
It sure looks like Frankie has already made himself at home :-)
Poor Jambaloney, when you're not expecting it things will happen. It's a good thing he was where he was (talk about fate). He was not to far from the garage and he had people that totally took care of him. The man upstairs has a unique way of watching over us :-) He was watching over you, Jam and Frankie today. Now go spoil the new member of your home.
    Your Friend,
    Sandy

    1. sweet Sandy - he has made himself completely at home - and demands food 5 times a day - bahahahahah! and jambaloney couldn't believe how quickly he went from being panicked to feeling incredibly relieved....we knew that the big guy upstairs was sure to try and make a very difficult day (castrating Frankie - something we would never do if not for our other cats) and make it go smoothly. the guys at the shop dropped everything when they learned that jambaloney HAD to pick Frankie up. imagine - big, strong mechanics but they cared about a little cat that they had never met. it was an awesome end to a stressful day.

we are spoiling the crap out of him Sandy - he is so affectionate and loving. and our other cats are loving on him too - even our crankmaster noodle-noo loves him! we are so happy!

    1. anon - we have simply been amazed by the service that we receive here...and we came from a big metropolis. the people here care, they help each other whenever they can and we try to do the same. the land here is amazing! we honestly couldn't be happier. we love being here!

as for the next furry critter - who knows? an orphaned baby bear, a zebra, a giraffe - bahahahahah! i want to get jambaloney a Labrador retriever puppy as he has never owned a dog - and Labs are wonderful dogs. but i think we will wait and give Frankie and the boys a chance to figure things out amongst themselves...and then we will wait and see what the Lord has planned for us.

dogs get dropped off "in the country" too....so maybe one will come our way. we'll have to see.

  12. In addition to the black cat, we have a smoke gray - chocolate brown part siamese that looks a little like Frankie. She was left behind when some people moved out, and is a sister to the much more petite black cat. Unfortunately she doesn't get along with her sister, so she has to stay outside. To be honest, I don't think she wants to come inside. When she does come inside, you usually wants to get back outside (after raiding the inside cat food) as quickly as possible.

    1. ahhh...she sounds like a funny little girl. too bad that they don't get along but as long as they are happy in their own environments - that's great. good on ya for taking care of both of them buddy!

  13. I don't enjoy cats... but way to go for opening your heart and home and going through all of the emotions associated with it.

My Jeep had the same actuator but I replaced the axle shaft sections with 1 full length inner axle. Just a thought to eliminate potential problems down the road a few years when you don't have a warranty. If it's even possible for your particular vehicle.

Also, a few posts too late but grats on the dishwasher. So much for dishpan hands eh!

    1. thanks Max, buddy - not all people are cat people and that's fine - not all people are zebra people either - bahahahah!

jambaloney is going to look into your tip - thanks for that buddy!

oh ya - dishwasher!!! i am loving that the counter isn't covered in dirty/clean dishes - it almost looks like a little kitchen (think kitchen the size of a small kitchen on a very, very small boat!)

  14. It is nice when folks go out of their way to help others. The way it should be. I am giving 4 days to a friend of mine starting this weekend, and even though he's paying me, he knows I am going out of my way to help him. It feels good to help a friend, especially one who is as appreciative as he is. I wish the world was more along those lines, but a whole bunch of greedy people have to spoil it for the rest of us...

    1. Craig, buddy - you said it! it is such a nice feeling to know that people care...and the guys at the shop really did drop everything so that jambaloney could make it in time to pick up Frankie. i know of your mettle buddy and know that you always go the extra mile to help your friends - that's why they are so appreciative. i still can't stop thinking about building us a commune with all of our internet friends together - with all of the different skill sets that we all have, and the knowledge that we are all good people willing to do anything to help a friend....man, that would be a nice place to live!

  16. So glad that everything has worked out well!

It might be a bit late to check now that you are attached to Frankie, but does your vet have a microchip reader? There is still a slim chance that he just managed to get lost from his owners. Think we found Frankie's cousin in our rabbit live trap this afternoon. Thanks to microchipping, kitty will be going back to her home.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. thanks Mrs. S. - it's standard policy at the vet to check for micro-chips on the animal....even if they aren't strays and you have proof that the animal is yours. Frankie wasn't chipped, wasn't lost - he was dropped off "in the country"...i hate people who can do that.

oh! i am so glad that you saved someone's kitty! good on you Mrs. S!!!

  17. And that's ANOTHER difference between where you live versus where we live. Here, you break down, you'd better know how to fix it yourself and not bother anyone.

Your Jambaloney sounds too much like Stud for comfort. While I was worrying about his test results, and mine, I worried out loud. He stayed quiet, which kind of bothered me. It was AS IF he didn't understand the situation.

Only AFTER mine came back did he confess he'd been scared out of his mind. I said "But I needed to KNOW!"

He said I was so scared that if I'd known HE was scared, I might have lost it.

My tests weren't all good, and we still don't know about his AT ALL, but I'm at least not yammering on about it.

I hope your area is safe for a recently operated on tom cat. Remember, mother nature can be a bitch.

    1. lotta joy - yep - there are major differences in regards to where we each live. over a year ago jambaloney flipped the truck on a road that maybe sees 4 cars a day. but our bus driving lady, SJ, pulled right over when she came by, called her dispatch, they called the tow truck AND me to let me know (his cell phone didn't have coverage in that area). everyone here helps everyone out. last summer we were at an event at our community centre. a lady that none of us knew pulled in, in a complete panic as she had hit a deer. she had a baby in the backseat. so jambaloney and our friend D had her follow them to her cottage where her boyfriend was. all in a days work around here.

yep - you can be certain that Stud was scared and worried...and if he had have let on - he would have freaked you out even more. i can't wait until all of both of your test results are in so that we can all breathe a sigh of relief. i know everything will be fine hon.

because we are in the middle of nowhere and there are very few critters here, little Frankie and both of our other cats are fine. they sleep all day and go out all night. now that Frankie is getting fed and has a family plus his "operation" - he doesn't leave the yard. neither do the other 2. it's a win-win all around.

I love the new man in your life. I am going to the shelter in a week or so and find a playmate for our stray who found us several months ago. We have another girl but is too old to have anything to do with the new girl. She is about 17 years old and used up her 9 lives a long time ago.
