finally finished the kitchen cabinets!!!

remember the god-awful cabinets that were in our tiny kitchen when we first bought the Manor? (here's a pic below...and trust me, they look A LOT better in this pic than in real life!)

and then our friend Barb stained them with a cherry stain to make them look better? (sorry for the bad quality pic!)

and then we finally replaced the bottom cabinet with a nice, white one and a beautiful red sink?

well, now we have finally finished painting the upper cabinets - woohoo! it really brightens up the kitchen and gives a sorta'-kinda' feeling of the kitchen not being soooo tiny! have a look:

it took 3 coats of primer and 2 coats of white paint - what a pain! but it looks so much better - don't you think?

i wrote on my plain, white and beige spice jars with a permanent red marker to match all of the other red stuff in the kitchen.

everything is still a work in progress but we are progressing. slow and steady. one job at a time.

  4. Great Job! Hope the primer was the stain sealer type. Now I see why you needed three coats of primer. Knotty pine is nasty that way, the knots bleed through.

Where are the microwave and the toaster now?

    1. Mrs. S - yes, the primer was the stain sealer type. and the white paint is a bathroom white paint so it can be repeatedly washed, wiped, rinsed and won't get washed off. the microwave and toaster are currently living on one of our big shelving units that we built in the hallway - it's a real pain having to take them down, plug them into an extension cord and put them on the table when we use them - then put them back when we are finished - but soon, i will have a new little rolling baker's cart and that's where they will live - woohoo! i'll do a post once we get it set up and whatnot! oh ya - good eye, madame!

  5. What is it with wimmins and white paint????

Once upon a time I remodeled a kitchen for a close friend. He got beautiful ribbon stripe luuan kitchen cabinets. They were beautiful, unique, elegant.

Four months later he sold the house. The new owner, first thing she did was paint the damn things white.

My own ceiling is white pickled redwood. First thing out of the bag, mama asked me if she could repaint it white? It already IS white. And then the fight began...

You could say I downright hate white paint. What is it with wimmins????

    1. Winston - i am normally not a fan of white stuff! my kitchen back in the city was gorgeous, to-die-for, bird's eye maple - i loved it! the kitchen cupboards here are made out of cheap-*ss panelling glued to plywood - they are an eyesore and the pics don't do justice to just how awful they look! that and the fact that none of the cupboards are plumb or straight or arghghghgh! our friend Barb tried to make them better for us before we came by staining them - but after being here a while we realized that the cherry stain was very oppressive in such a small room. that's why we went with the white. the white really has made a difference in opening up the room and making it more airy!

and what is it with cranky and cantankerous mens??? bahahahahahah! xox buddy!

  7. Hey Kymber - You guys did an amazing job with what you have to work with ! The white is so much better than the cherry stain in a small space I think. That red sink is my favourite - I'd love one too ! It really gives the space the " wow " factor !

  8. Woooohoooo! I love it! I think everything looks cozy, warm, and inviting!Clever idea about the spice jars!

I think that my mantra of steady pace wins the race, could work for you too. Seems like a ton of work and a small amount of time, but it is so rewarding, isn't it, when you complete a project?

    1. thanks Spicey! and i like my personalized spice jars. yep, slow and steady does work, and eventually you will win the race - it just takes so darn long to get to everything eh? and then there is a week when the cupboards are all emptied and dishes are everywhere and you can't find anything - but you know all about that what with ripping up your kitchen and dining room - bahahahah! xoxox
