mid feb update

remember a couple of days ago when we were enjoying watching the snow melt?

it sure is nice to see patches of ground! but we woke up to this, this morning:

so we went out together and shoveled the deck, the front steps, the cat paths. right now it's misty raining and the air is warm so there is much melting happening, thank goodness. this winter has been the most snow that anyone around here has seen in years! i am not complaining - we only lost power once but the other day our internet was down for a whole 24 hours!!! i imagine some people were near losing their minds without their internet - bahahahaha!

as jambaloney mentioned previously, he went to an ice-fishing derby on saturday. i went and spent the afternoon with my best buddy c in fourchu. we chatted at the kitchen table for a bit and then watched "marie antoinette" by sophia coppola - one of my all-time favourite movies. i love to read about historical figures and marie antoinette is one of my favourites, my favourite being, of course, Elizabeth I. i have a bazillion books on both of them but the majority of books about marie antoinette are not, shall we say, very favourable to her. i find that coppola's movie shows her in a much more believable and sympathetic manner. oh well, enough of my blathering. i had a wonderful afternoon with my besty and we went out to the ice fishing derby to cheer the men on. it was cold, slushy and wet, 3 things that neither of us care for, so we stayed for a bit and then went back to her house. her hubby b made a delicious hot roast beef sandwich for us, we had some of c's green bean casserole (it was to die for) and carrots and peas. when jambaloney returned later, they fed him, too. he was super hungry and i couldn't believe he ate all of the heaping, and i mean heaping, hot sandwich that b made.

anyway poor jambaloney is back under the house jacking up the floors. he just finished one spot that used to bounce when you walked on it (i know eh? jeesh!) but now it is solid as a rock - woohoo!

speaking of woohoo - how about a big giant dish of lasagna?

oh that baby was yummy!

well, we have been doing odd jobs around the house, keeping busy, playing cards on the plastic-wrapped porch naked when it's sunny out. just the usual kind of stuff.

i'll leave off with today's recipe over at the Framboise Manor Good Eats blog:

i call it "kick-you-in-the-head-hot/sour/sweet dressing or dipping sauce"!

well, that's it for now. jambaloney will have some scary posts about jacking up the floor coming soon!

    1. PP - unlike you and your sidekick SciFi - we tend to find more useful things to do on an ordinary day than try to kidnap poor Little Beans as ransom for trout! call us a little more civilized if less dressed - bahahahahahah!

    2. Kymber,

Thank you for sticking up for my dog Beans. I've been out of town, and come back to PP and SCI working together to kidnap Beans.

Little do they know, Beans will hurt anyone coming within 2 feet of the trout in the freezer (which is under lock and key).

  2. 24 hours without the internet? I'm not sure I'd survive! Haha! Fine prepper I'd make. :-) We'll have to get together and share floor horror stories. My sewing studio used to have such a lean that the students' chairs (with wheels) had to keep pulling themselves back to their place! xoxo

    1. Mamma - we strip down and then head out to the porch and play...get ready for it...and don't let The Marine read this as it's x-rated - we play rummy 500 - bahahahahah! also called gin rummy. but we make up all kinds of crazy rules and certain cards are doubled and if you are caught holding certain cards then they are doubled too - oh ya - it's whackjob crazy naked card playing out on the porch! but it's so awesome because it is so warm but we still get the freezing, fresh beautiful air blowing on the porch and that is soooo good for you when you are trapped in a tiny cottage with baseboard heaters.

git yers, and Papas and The Marine's butt up here and i will make you 40lbs of lasagna. we can eat platefuls while playing cards on the porch. oh and we promise to keep our clothes on! bahahahahah! xoxoxox

    1. Sci - you would love my besty. she's cranky, snarly, curses like a sailor, tells people to shut up - oh she's downright nasty! but she always hugs us when we arrive, always hugs us when we leave, says the sweetest things like "ok kymber. i love you too" when we get off the phone. she ALWAYS has my wine and jamie's beer on hand and is always taking very good care of the both of us. she's smart, she's an excellent mother, works 10hr days on the crab boats and is always so sharing. she always says the funniest things but the one me and jambaloney repeat to each other the most, is when she first invited us to her house for our first thanksgiving dinner there. we had a feast and a wonderful time! and of course thanked her for such a beautiful meal. i called her the next day to follow up and say thank you again and she said "how many effin times do you people have to thank someone for some dinner!" - oh Sci - we still laugh over that one. she's like diamonds. or gold. she's like a really good friend. Sci - your and her sense of humour would have you both through the roof. she'd love you. and you her.

get yer Texan butt up here and i'll make you some lasagna. like pounds of it! xoxoxo

  6. One thing I learned a while age. The reason northern fields have all those stone walls is because once you "uncover" a field, the deep freeze permafrost action of freeze and re-freeze will bring deeply buried rocks to the surface. So the farmer will continually run into more rocks to pile up along the side of the field.

  7. Sweet Kymber,

More snow, no FUN!!!!! Time for the good old shovels again.

Or better yet, forget about shoveling. Just go outside and play cards in the plastic covered patio naked wooooohoooooo!!!!!

Did you save us a piece of lasagna?? I can bring the wine, bread, and salad.

    Your friend,
    Sandy

  8. If they have no bread, let them eat lasagna !

We had a massive thunder storm here, with sheets of lightning and rain. Lasted five hours and knocked out the power. I worked all day cleaning up. But I didn't have to make cat trails so I guess I came out alright on that.

If I lived up there, I would have a heart attack shoveling snow. CC said he was afraid if you and J go surfing in the buff down there in Texas the sharks will eat you. Better be careful, there are big sharks there!
