look at that beautiful sky?!?!?!? i've been singing "june, joon, jooney, june, joon" for the past 2 days now....oh how i love june!
here's some more beautiful sky. even when it is cloudy, it is still beautiful. *sigh*
here's some more awesome clouds.
and some more.
sorry if i am boring you - but i know that Helga loves pics of the sky. so does Jennifer and Practical Parsimony - so i always take pics of the sky for them!
one more - this is from this morning - oh i love the sky here! notice that jambaloney cleared this new area for us. i will set up some more outdoor furniture here...it also has a fire pit. and we can see the river from there. it's quite beautiful!
and now for some miscellany. we did some more planting - it feels so rewarding to have almost everything planted - woohoo! here's a tiny 2lb, grass-fed, free-range, local chicken - i have honestly never eaten such good chicken. we have 6 more in the freezer. jambaloney grabbed a dozen when they were on sale. it amazes me that people prefer to eat bigger, commercial chickens. these are to die for. and the best that we can do until we raise our own. we love these chickens.
i stuffed it with the remaining wild rice, cranberry, sunflower seeds that i made to go with the trout that we had the other night. we also had mashed potatoes with chicken gravy (i don't mind admitting that i make the best gravy known to man!), and some mashed turnip with cream and maple syrup. my goodness we eat well here!
this pic is for my army buddy Helga. i told her that we have a some-what strange bluejay that loves to eat from her bird feeder. it has taken him some time to learn how to perch on her birdfeeder - but i am glad to say that he has finally learned. we spent many mornings watching this guy dangling sideways and upside down trying to get the bird seed. it was such a riot. Helga - he was clumsy like an ostrich but he has now learned, my dear sweet friend. we call this guy "Helga's buddy". we love that guy!
here is a little puffed-up, male, ruby-throated hummingbird. he is guarding all of the hummingbird feeders and won't let any other males near the feeders. my friend eager gridless beaver told me to move the feeders as they were too close together and that little guy could keep all the males away. so we have moved the hummingbird feeders all around the yard. thanks egb!
look at his bright red, ruby throat. he is so beautiful!
speaking of red and beautiful - have yourselves a gander:
it's lobster season and yer darn tootins we'll be eating a bunch of these for the next few months. and freezing a ton to have throughout the winter. oh man ---- can you say LOBSTER?????
here's pirate jambaloney ( he always wears a bandana - i think it is sooo hawt!) demonstrating how to properly drink up all the lobster juice from a tail. please notice the beautiful lobster-juice-catching shirt that i made for both he and myself. eating lobster is messy business. you must wear a garbage bag to enjoy it properly - teeheehee!
hey - how about that? the porch is almost completely tidied up. for the past 3 months it has been a complete mess! soon it will be super tidy. this year we are growing our lettuces and spinaches in pots. both suffered last year and we barely got a harvest from them. doing them in pots on the porch seems to be working. also, please notice my beautiful pink sun-hat that jambaloney got for me. he always gets me little treats. i love him so much!
up next - apple blossoms - woohoo! so very pretty!
and lastly - little wild, violety flowers growing in the grass. i love wildflowers and i love that we have so many!
we are having a fantastic first June weekend - i hope that you are too!
june, joon, juney, joon, june....i love june!
June 2 and time to send all the pea vines to the compost bin. Cabbage harvested and now in sourkraut heaven. Garden bed all cleaned up and fertilized. Now lots of tomato plants to take up the space.
ReplyDeleteAnd the first baby zucchini is already growing. Spuds up out of the ground. Looks like millions of grapes on the vines. Yup! Life is good.
Winston
wait Winston - don't you eat your pea shoots? i love pea shoots/pea tendrils. oh and i certainly love sauerkraut - yummeh! i've got tomatoes ready and they are already hardened off and a few baby zuchinni - woohoo! we've also got spuds but we don't have any grapes - fingers crossed. life is so good buddy - so very good!
DeleteHoly cow..i want some of those nice lobsters with a cold beer. : ) good eating up at the manor. Enjoy your Junie June!
ReplyDeleteJUGM - jambaloney enjoyed 2 cold beers with his lobster! i stuck with water for my lobster and then changed to a glass of red wine. life is good!
DeleteSo when is the lobster beach party?? Thanks for the update guys. How about a photo of both of you. The black and white is good, but color is better.
ReplyDeleteRob - it's lobster beach party everyday until July 19 - that's when lobster season ends! yer more than welcome to come up buddy! i'll get some more pics of us up - give me a few weeks to dare getting in that river and then we'll have some pics up of us shivering - bahahahahah!
DeleteAs always, these are lovely pictures. Thanks for sharing the beauty that is Cape Breton Island, and of course, the beauty of the life, thoughts and kindnesses of both of you.
ReplyDeleteoh Jane - i try my best to share the beauty that is Cape Breton but no matter how i try - i just can't properly capture it - you know how beautiful it is here...no camera could ever capture it properly. our warmest thoughts and best wishes to you and yours always! xoxoxo
DeleteJealous of the apple blossoms. We had them burst all over our 3 trees this year with our early spring then cold snap killed most of them off. Think we got a even half dozen apples on 3 trees total growing.
ReplyDeleteEven more jealous of the lobster! For some reason our stores don't even carry lobster unless it's right before New Years or Valentine's Day.
Give me a good New England style lobster roll anyday!
oh Beth - so sorry to hear that your cold snap killed off your blossoms - that sucks bad! we like our lobster plain and with no side dish. and we only eat lobster rolls or lobster salad after the season is over - teeheehee. we like our lobster dripping down our faces! xox
DeleteHey sweet sis - Happy June Junie Joon at the Manor indeed !
ReplyDeleteWhat great pics you've posted - always a real treat to view them - thanks hon ! On the ninth pic - there's a little squirrel sitting on the ground - just under the feeder. See him there - he's so darn cute ! Love all the birds - the wildflowers are just so special - and well - the food is to die for !
So - that's a what a real lobster looks like !?!? That guy appears to be large - bigger than the plate. I can say lobster - now we need to eat us some. Jambaloney - you look really caught up in that lobster tail .... Bahahah !
My pic sis - What can I say ... I love that clumsy ostrich - and I'm so glad he finally figured out how to stay on the feeder. He's a fast learner so he's now gonna guard and protect like a good soldier - he's got my name .... bahahah !
What a great sun- hat your love got for you - beautiful color - which matches your crocs. Now you're all set to dance and sing - junnie joon june for ages ! I'm so happy that you're happy me sweet !
One last thing - would you like the book called - Crossing the Atlantic in a Cement Boat - written by the Harmonic Farming author ? The plot is about about their real family journey crossing the Atlantic in a cement boat - bahahaha ! May be a entertaining read. If so - then it'll be on your shelf today.
Thanks for more blue sky - it's grey here and yup - raining again !
Love You Always - and have a great weekend together ! xoxoxo
hey back, sweet Sis! there are 4 lobsters on the plate in the pic - might be confusing if you have never seen a lobster. no prob - i will take a pic of one by itself as we still have 2 in the fridge - woohoo! oh and i taught jambaloney how to properly eat and devour a lobster years ago - it's kind of like special infantry training for cape bretoners! we learn how to crack and break lobster and crabs using only our hands and teeth - bahahahah! no worries - i'll teach you too!
Deletesweet Helga - that ostrich has taken over your feeder and it is all his until the tiny goldfinches come and scare him off - then he lurks around on the ground. but he is a fast learner - bahahahah!
i would love that book but sis - haven't you sent enough?!?!?!? i don't want you spending all of that money. apparently our friend B got our last 2 packages so jambaloney is heading to his place tomorrow...of course the packages caused another big stir in the community as you knew that they would!!!
sorry for your grey sky and you are welcome for pics of our blue ones...i have taken so many pics of the sky for you - i must have 2,000 pics of the sky. but i know that you love them and i love to take the pics and post them for you!
you have a great weekend too, k, honey? and know how much i absolutely adore and love you, my sweetest and bestest friend! xoxoxoxoxoxo
I'm back again hon - to say the book is selling like hot cakes and it's on for a super duper sale price - so no worries there. I can never send you enough - and I can hardly wait to create even more of a stir with the next lot .... oh what fun !!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteLove Forever ... xoxoxo
Helga - who knew that you were such an attention hog - bahahahah! jus' teasin' witchya! but ya - every single parcel that comes through gets attention! we forgot that today is saturday so B is out on the lobster boat and his wife C is working on unloading the crab boats. so jambaloney will head over tomorrow to get our pacakages - i can't wait! because you always pick such appropriate stuff. love you hon, always and forever! xoxoxoxo
DeleteMorning hon - hey silly.... today is Sunday - not Saturday. Maybe a typo on your part - or not. You can get lost with the days and times there at the Manor so easily - ahhhh - what an awesome life !!!
DeleteHappy Sunday guys ! xoxoxoxo
I have a penchant for sky photos...then I realized I have a penchant for roast chicken....then I realized I miss my 'yard guard' hummers from home...then I realized I LOVE lobster....then I realized I'm hungry.
ReplyDeletelotta joy - me and you seem to share a lot of penchants - bahahahah! i hope you went and got something to eat!
DeleteI've eaten lobster found here in the central United States 1000 miles from the nearest ocean and it is okay. I'm guessing I would turn into a lobster fan if I lived up where you do. Fresh trout and lobster on a regular basis... are you sure you and jambaloney don't need any seasonal help?
ReplyDeleteEd, buddy - yer always welcome for a visit...we won't even make you work too hard! and ya - fresh lobster is like fresh anything - much better when it's fresh. the lobsters we ate were caught that day and cooked and eaten that day so you really can't get much fresher than that! we love 'em!
DeleteSweet Kymber,
ReplyDeleteI’m partial to the month of June myself. I suppose it has to do with the fact that I was born in June. I look forward to your pictures of the clouds and sky. Your clouds are fluffy and appear to have personalities and the skies are vibrant blue. Another reason to put Canada on the retirement list heheheheheh…..
Now I agree, the picture you took of a potential relaxing sitting place would be a great place to sit with a fire pit and watch the river. In fact, I would use this high place to star watch, maybe set up a telescope.
Buying local meats such as chickens that have been grass feed and free range are better all around. You help the local farmer and it’s better for your health. Heck, I would have snatched up a bunch too. Way to go Jambaloney, I love it when a man shops for his woman (especially food for the home). Chicken is a favorite in this house along with LOBSTER! (We can’t buy it here). You two make delicious and healthy food. Wild rice is awesome. Hubby and I love wild rice, I can’t get our older kids to eat it.
Okay, now about the lobster. I really think that Winston, Jacked Up Glockmom, Rob, Jane of Virginia, Beth of Red Barn Farm, Helga, Lott Joy, Ed, myself and others that are blogger friends need to come up and enjoy LOBSTER>>>>>>>Yep, that’s it. We should all meet up in Canada and enjoy the fresh caught lobster and sun bathe nude, LOL….. Kymber make sure Jambaloney has enough windows for all of us to sun bathe. Promise you won’t laugh when you see my ugly naked A_ _. Bahahahah.
You have a beautiful porch, great for growing all kinds of stuff. I can see you have plenty of pots. The lettuce and spinach will really take off on the porch; they love the sun and warmth.
Give Jambaloney a big hug from an Oklahoma friend. Have a great weekend, and don’t work to hard.
Sandy
Hi Sandy - I can picture it in my head - we all invade the Manor at once with thoughts of lobster running through our heads - picture the scenes from an old movie called " It's a Mad Mad World !" Bahahaha !!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteOh sis - couldn't help myself here - read Sandy's comment and that came to mind ! Operation - " Red Lobster " planned. Watch your backs - could get ugly ! Oh, Bahahaha !!!!
bahahahahahahah at Helga! i would love it if you all swarmed the Manor - then i could kiss my sweet best friend and hug all of my new friends!
DeleteSandy, happy birthday to you if it hasn't already passed! and ya - we both love june! i am glad that you like pics of the sky as i am always taking pics of the sky - i can't help myself! and Sandy - always keep Canada in mind for retiring - don't forget our free healthcare! the area that jambaloney cleared is excellent for star-gazing - you would love it as there is no light pollution here.
yes, we love to buy local everything! we have many farmers in central and western cape breton and they sell all of our their food to our grocery stores - i love when the food has a cape breton label...or at the very worst a nova scotia (mainland) label! jambaloney is a shopper extraordinnaire and as he is very involved in our food storage and preps - he knows when to grab a bunch of something on sale - i love him so much - i do!
hey - if you guys all decide to swarm the Manor at the same time - we have no probs with that! we have the vandura for Helga and a bunch of crappy tents for the rest of you and we can party all summer! jambaloney says that he will take you, Helga, Winston and PioneerP out fishing (you have to keep an eye on Helga as she might fall out of the boat! bahahahahah!). the rest of our friends can hang out suntanning with me! oh and we would never laugh at your naked butt - we promise!
i will give the man a big hug from you - he always appreciates them! i hope that you have a fantastic weekend as well. ours is super awesome so far! xoxo
Hey Helga, Now that sounds like a great idea. Let's all invade the manor at once, there will be plentry of lobsters and fish to eat and run through our heads. Hmmm....operation "Red Lobster", sounds like trouble to me, better be careful now :-)
Deleteteeheehee - hey Sandy - you and Helga are no longer allowed to speak amongst yourselves! you guys sound like a bucket full of trouble each - bahahahahah!
DeleteLobster AND Trout (Not to mention Trout fishing) .... That maybe enough to get me to travel up that way but I will leave faster than a rabbit with a hound chasing it when the first morning frost hits. Which will be when? Like August?
ReplyDeleteThings are really looking nice there Kymber and Jamby Keep up the good work!!!
PioneerP - i told you that we live in a very warm micro-climate - we don't see frost until mid-december and no staying snow until mid-february - we are not in the arctic - bahahahahah! so get your butt up here and go fishing with jambaloney!!!
DeleteBeautiful, my friends. The porch is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe lobster is very photogenic. :D I've never had it, when I was 7 years old it was one of the many things I tested positive for on an allergy test. I've not tried to tempt fate, so I assume I'm still allergic. :)
Oh Kymber! tonight I made an Italian Herb Rub from fresh herbs & garlic, (well fresh from the produce department. I have the worst luck with my herb plants, I tend to kill them.) it was part of our homework assignment from my first aromatherapy class which was today. It has to dry for 3 days before I can use it, but the house smells amazing. Tomorrow I am making rosemary oil. :)
Love & Hugs
~Fel~
ooh Fel - stay away from the lobster! are you allergic to all shellfish? poor darlin...i would die if i couldn't eat my shellfish!
Deleteand woohoo for you. these classes seem like they are right up your alley and maybe it's time for you to try killing....er...ummm...i mean... growing some more herbs - bahahahah! let me know how the rosemary oil turns out...i am sure that it will be beautiful!!! lots of love and hugs back at you and yours! xoxo
Kymber, supposedly I am allergic to all shell fish, but...I have eaten shrimp and scallops, with no ill effects, that were noticeable anyway. I should just bite the bullet and get retested since it has been almost 40 years.
DeleteOur chiropractor's brother has an allergy practice inside the office. It is laser therapy for allergies, it worked for Brittany, which is good because when she got it done, Dr. Mike said it only had about an 85% success rate. It is a laser therapy, you get hooked up to a computer and your allergies are detected by the vibrations your body puts out when you're fingers are stimulated by the machine with certain allergens. Then whatever you test positive for, Dr. Mike programs them into the computer and the therapy is a series of laser treatments that last 6 wks. He takes a laser pointer and runs it over the top of your head & down your spine, he then hits the pressure points between your thumb and index finger and the two on your feet. It's been about 2 years now and she has not suffered from allergies and hers were pretty bad. It is pretty costly though and it's not covered by insurance because it is considered elective, so it will be a while longer before I can try that.
Back to the lobster, LOL I am not a huge fan of seafood anyway so it doesn't bother me that I can't eat it.
Love Ya!
Fel - strange that you can eat the shrimp and scallops??? your chiropractor's brother sounds like he is doing something right and i am super glad that it worked for B! i hope that you can be tested again and/or get the treatment! love ya back hon! xoxo
DeleteI can see why you like June up there. Happy June! Enjoy the lobsters.
ReplyDeleteMrs. S. - we finally got the pumpkin seeds! apparently they were put in the wrong community mailbox and that person is a "cottager" and just came up for the first time this year yesterday. so he walked up our 130ft driveway and delivered the package to us! thank you so very much! i will be sure to plant them in our "huggie kulture" with the others! thanks again - i really appreciate it! xoxo
DeleteYou're most welcome. Hope they sprout quickly.
DeleteJamie is 'da man.....any fella that drinks lobster juice is fine by me....thanks, kymber, great pictures.
ReplyDeletedear sweet one - any man that don't drink lobster juice is getting kicked out of my bed - bahahahahah! it's how i judge a man, ya know?
DeleteYour pictures and words make me want to be there! Our tiny farm is in the high desert where it meets the San Gabriel mountains. It is dry and hot but oh the wide open blue skies and puffy white clouds. I know what you mean about loving the June sky. I am so hooked on your blog and thanks for sharing the journey.
ReplyDeletegmv - i am really glad that you are hooked on the blog! you are in the San Gabriel mountains??? holy moly - that is a beautiful part of your country! i can imagine that it is dry but the sky must be just gorgeous! thank you for understanding how much i love my sky - you would understand seeing as how you love yours. thank you for coming along on our crazy little journey - we love making internet friends and now consider you one!
DeleteKymber, Thank you for the birthday wish, no my birthday has not passed yet it's June 13th (the twins-gemini). Canada has been placed officially on our retirement list. No, I can't forget about the insurance, but I think you have to be a citizen to receive this benefit, right?
ReplyDeleteI think Jambaloney will find a great place to fish and we (Jam,me, Helga, Winston and PioneerP) will come back with a bountiful of fish for everyone to enjoy. I know exactly where my tent will go (on the top of the hill looking over the river).
Continue to enjoy your weekend, I'm on my way back out to the garden.
Sandy - i should have known that you were a Gemini ;)! i am glad that you placed Canada on the retirement list and about the insurance - i can look into it more for you but if you reside in Canada you get some of our free medical insurance period. but yes - you must be a citizen to enjoy all of our benefits. jambaloney is going to have a hard time fitting you all in the canoe - bahahahahahah - but he'll find a way! and you got dibs on where your tent will go, buddy! go and enjoy the rest of the weekend! xoxox
DeleteHI! Jambaloney! Kymber are you sure the government knows about you. If someone could bottle up all your enthusiasm you could light up Half of North America by yourself. You are such a treasure. Nice Pics. Just checking in. the rat
ReplyDeletehey rat, buddy - nice to see you here! jambaloney says hi as well! thanks for the sweet sentiments - i wish that i could be bottled up - i would so volunteer to light up half of North America - especially the half that you are located in! lots of love to ya buddy and thanks for checking in!
