no beautiful, blue sky pic for my sweet Helga in this post - it has been foggy and grey all week! that's when it hasn't been raining! it is driving us crazy as we can't work on the greenhouse -arghghghghgh! i know this pic of the greenhouse doesn't look any different than the last pics from previous posts - but here it is with a coat of exterior, water-proofing paint on it. this coat of paint took forever to dry because it is so wet outside.
jambaloney got the frames built for the 2 biggest sections of windows for our roof. he built these 2 weeks ago...and only a few days ago was it dry enough to finally prime them and then get a coat of exterior paint on them. when i say "dry enough" i use the term loosely. look at how grey and wet it is in these pics - arghghghgh!
because we have no work area for anything, we have to use the yard for building and work. once the greenhouse is built, jambaloney can start working on a workshed.
besides painting the whole frame with primer and exterior water-proof paint, we had to prime and exterior paint 40 railings....an easy job when you have the sun to help.
we had some good eats though. here are my loaded nachos with organic chips, homemade salsa with chopped tomatoes, green onions, a ton of garlic, a large splash of olive oil and a dollop of apple cider vinegar (with the mother). also homemade guacamole made with the juice of a lime, an avacado, sour cream and another ton of garlic (we eat a lot of garlic!!!) and some chopped peppers to top them off.
jambaloney's had the same ingredients plus some hot banana peppers and some hamburger.
yum. below is some homemade kimchi soup. i take homemade broth and boil up some rice noodles, chop up some homemade kimchi and add it, then add chopped peppers and green onions. it is so spicey it near blows your head off. but delicious and so good for you!
and some yummy chicken and cauliflower curry with rice, pickled artichokes, olives and fresh pineapple chunks. that's some good eats right there.
my tomatoe seedlings have grown to almost a foot tall and i had to transplant them from their starter cups into pots and put a bunch of them on the porch. soon i will have to do it with all of them as they are outgrowing my little kitchen greenhouse thingie. same thing with the peppers! come on weather - co-operate please!!!!
at least tomorrow it is not forecasted to be too wet so jambaloney can work on the roof of the greenhouse. and hopefully it will be dry enough for me to paint about 40 1 X 2's. and all of the OSB for the walls. ack. we need some sun and dry days!!!!
It's looking really nice, you two.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should have built the workshop before the green house though? :)
Just a thought!!!
thanks, PP, buddy - we appreciate it. oh and isn't hindsight 20/20? arghghghghghghgh!
DeleteIt looks great, almost good enough to be an escape home for, say, a mother of ten looking for a vacation?? Seriously, are you going to put a little bed out in that thing for me?? I don't need running water, just let me use the hot tub and get me a bucket for my other business....lol!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is SUCH a pain to not have work space...you have to drag the tools out and drag them back in each.and.every.time - so much more time that you COULD be using working!! I get it. We want a covered work/storage area too. Hopefully you guys will get one soon - it would make your projects so much easier.
All the food looks great :)
MM - what a wonderful idea...it's too bad that i don't know any mothers of ten looking for a vacation - bahahahahah! aww hun - you are always welcome to come up for a visit - and we got a bucket too!
Deleteyep - you understand not having a proper workspace. back in the city we had a huuuuuge basement and a huuuuuuge garage - it was never a problem. now here, we are weather dependent. next project - a proper workshed! xoxo
You two are getting that greenhouse project together fast! You will have it up in no time. My tomato seedlings out grew both of their pots. When it came time to plant them I had to use the trench method and I think it made them more robust. Either that or the Eden method I am now using. I'll be having a BLT before you know it!
ReplyDeleteMamma - we are really trying to get this thing built - we just need the weather to co-operate! it will be a beauty tho! i just transplanted another 40-some tomatoes into bigger pots and about 20-some pepper plants too. they will move to the greenhouse when it is built for a couple of weeks and then they will be transplanted outside when it is full-on summer. as for the trench method - jambaloney's mom taught me that and i do that with all plants now too when transplanting. but the eden method is definitely working too! stop bragging about your blt - i'm still waiting for my greenhouse to be finished - bahahahah!
DeleteA workshop will make projects go faster. Depending on the whims of the weather for projects and gardening, too, makes work slow to finish. Daddy always had some place to work indoors. Once, it was a barn. Then, he built a "barn" in the city, just a huge shop in he backyard. He practically lived there, working on cold or rainy days, even. I hate dragging tools around and having to protect things from weather.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful greenhouse!
Linda - a workshop is soooo a must-have! your father knew the importance of not having to drag tools out and in and out and in - i am glad that he always had a workshop - we'll get one soon.
Deletethanks. i think it is beautiful too!
It all looks great, especially the food! Which by the way, is making me very hungry right now as we have worked at the Country House today (11 hours outside all.day.long).
ReplyDeleteoh DFW - sorry about the long day. we just finished one as well. and hopefully another dry day tomorrow to put in another 12 hours! this project would have been completed by now if we hadn't have had 358 days of straight rain and fog! i hope you got some food into you by now! good luck on all of your projects at the country house!
DeleteSweet Kymber,
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you both on how the greenhouse is coming along.
It's going to be a really nice looking and good size!!!!
I've got to remind myself never to read your blog when I'm hungry :-) Everything looks so yummy, I'm already growing inches around my waist just blog smelling your post, Bahahahahahaha.
Please give Jambaloney a hug from your Oklahoma Friends
Sandy
Kymber,
DeleteI forgot to tell you the Canadian Military was down here helping the tornado victims.
dear sweet Sandy - we're excited too - thank you so much! it will be 20ft X 8ft when completed - woohoo! i actually want to move in there - bahahahah! i am glad that you enjoy the food and i look forward to the day when i can prepare some food for my sweet friend!
Deletei am glad that you mentioned that the Canadian Forces were down helping the tornado victims. alot of people don'e know but the CF were one of the first to arrive in new orleans during hurricane katrina. they are called out and used in a variety of instances around the world.
i am glad that they were there. they do a lot of good things...kinda' like you! i loved the post that the Rat did about you...loved it! xox
Absolutely stunning greenhouse - can't wait to drool green when it's finished :)
ReplyDeleteoh Dani - it really is stunning. jambaloney has been sorting all of the windows (we have 3,000 - and he is still getting them out of other people's garbage!) and measuring and designing and he is doing an amazing job! it will be 20ft X 8ft when finished and i can't wait to grow as much as possible in there. it will really extend our growing season. Dani - i am already drooling green - teehee!
DeleteThat is such a gorgeous greenhouse, you could rent it out for guests ! LOL The food always looks so fantastic there are yet you are both thin enough to garden naked ! Cape Breton Island must be one of those places on Earth where calories don't count ! LOL Good morning to you both !
ReplyDeletedear lovely Jane - there is no renting my greenhouse out to guests! what am i saying? i have already decided that it is no longer a greenhouse - i am moving into it! it's so beautiful, with crisp, straight lines - there isn't a single straight line in this whole crappy cottage - bahahahahah! so seeing straight lines is doing wonders for my soul - bahahahah! both of us are becoming stronger and healthier since moving here, due to the availability of delicious, local food. we always have huge-assed projects on the go that keep us busy - i am sure that when the projects slow down the calories will catch up to us!
Deletegood morning to you, too. it is always such a pleasure to read your uplifting comments. thank you, Jane!
Love the greenhouse!!!
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been blah, too. The sun finally came out yesterday-YAY!
Donna - the sun finally came out today - YAY! well after a bunch of cloud and stuff - but whatever, we'll take what we can get! i love the greenhouse too - thanks so much!
DeleteI have been so bleesed with this little house and shop I bought back in 2003. While I didn't know it at the time, God was watching out for me. Heck the shop is big enough for my old boat, my mini-van and still have plenty of room for all my tools and shelves for storage. The basement is perfect temp. for brewing both ales and lagers.
ReplyDeleteFor really great nachos get a good quality corn tortilla or make your own and soak them over night in Lime juice in a Ziplock bag and then fry them up in at about 350-375 degree oil. No need for salt as those little chips are yummy and I tend to be a salt fiend for snacks.
I was going to say something about the greenhouse. But then I got hungry and forgot what it was.
