a post for Vonne about getting false teeth

kids...in the last post Vonne asked some serious questions that i wished i had have asked years ago. questions about keeping teeth, bad teeth, that need many appointments, are expensive and maybe a waste of time. but before i show you the nitty gritty of my new teeth - the pics are gawd-awful - but i want to provide true information - i want to share some almost-good-looking pics of me from days ago.

the famous me and my best friend T in a photo booth at a mall in ottawa.

the famous me and J in my barracks room at Ft. George Meade. being that my military background is in intelligence...you military folks will know what i was doing at Meade.

the famous me and M when she and B invited me to thanksgiving day supper.

the famous me and B at the suckiest club known to man in Vanier, ON. you can see my eyebrow peircing, nose piercing and labrette (underneath the bottom lip) piercing here.

and the famous jambaloney's  stepsister's wedding - a pic with me and jambaloney's sister - you can really see all my piercings here.

and then the famous "i'm pulling a Nicole Ritchie evening" at a friend's art show. oh man, talk about a horrendous art show!

well, here's the new me. 6 years of living in the wild.

only wearing a bathing suit for the picture. living the life of riley with the man i love and 4 stray cats. at our own private beach.

but these next pics are scary - be warned in advance. Vonne has asked some very good questions and i want to answer them properly. here's me doing a natural smile...as natural as can be when you are doing it for a camera and on the spot.

this pic is a little scary but i am trying to show my bottom teeth for Vonne.

now i am making a grimace...again to show Vonne the teeth.

this is a real grimace and i cannot believe i am sharing this on the internet - but i want to be real and i want to help Vonne.

and here i am with my mouth closed but with a smile.

and here is another smile.

i have gone through nothing short of hell over these past 4 months. all of my teeth that had to be pulled were bound with intertwined roots. it took 4 and 1/2 hours to take out 15 teeth.

it was 8 years ago that i fell down and banged my mouth/face off of a paving stone. 13 teeth had to come out. i got partials. at the time, i thought it would be best to have all of my teeth taken out but was discouraged by my denturist and jambaloney. they both said get partials. then 6 years ago, we came here and i went to another denturist who made me different partials. i hated both sets. and i ground my teeth my whole life so whether i had 50 teeth or only 14 - i still ground them - all day and night.

Vonne - for you - when i only had half of my teeth in my mouth - i gagged and threw up every single day when i had to brush my teeth. now, with no teeth, i brush my gums, the roof of my mouth and my tongue and no barfing.

Vonne - i have had my new dentures for 23 days. i can't eat a carrot or any crunchy food unless i take my teeth out. my gums are very tough and can handle a lot of different foods. but not the teeth. i put my teeth in for several hours a day, practice eating little things with them, but if the food is too tough, i take the teeth out, eat the food, and put the teeth back in. i practice with my teeth, a few hours in, a few hours out, eating in between.....BUT

the wonderful thing about my teeth is that i can go to a community event, i can be there for 7 hours, have my teeth in, talk to all of our friends, and feel confident...a confidence that i never had with partials.

my advice to you and anyone suffering with their teeth - get full dentures now. if you have a good denturist - those teeth will do you a lifetime. naysayers are going to come along and say otherwise - but i wish i had have gotten full dentures 8 years ago!

if you, Vonne, or anyone else has any questions - please ask. as you can see in this post - i am not shy to put myself out there for ridicule. and for the most part....over these many years of blogging...all i have gotten is support.

thank you to all of my friends who read this blog, comment, and always say uplifting things. including Pioneer Preppy - bahahahahah!

  5. Kymber, thank you so much, it was so sweet of you to do this for me! I enlarged all those pics and got a really good look! Your teeth look real! I wouldn't notice they were dentures i didn't know different.

I was shocked that you can eat carrots with your gums! They must be very tough indeed! That's been my concern all along, I live on raw veggies or lightly cooked veggies.

On the surface my teeth look fine, but I have lots of crowns and bridges. All my life I've struggled with my teeth. One bridge failed and could not be replaced because of bone loss, so they want me to have bone grafts and implants now. My husband is encouraging me to do it, and my dentist is too. I'm just leaning toward getting all my teeth pulled and going for the dentures, but my dentist insists I have "Too many good teeth". Sigh
I'm just soooo tired of the whole mess.

Thank you so much for answering my questions! I'll let you know what I decide to do. :)

    1. Vonne - you are very welcome! i am glad you asked those questions because i wish i had have asked those questions 8 years ago!!! but things happen in God's time not our time and i am glad to finally have things in my mouth that give me confidence.

Vonne - my denturist asked me how long could i wait before needing teeth - he said most people get them too soon, their gums aren't healed and then have problems with their dentures for years. most people have to return to work and stuff, right? but i am in such a convenient position since i am retired, and jambaloney can do all of the shopping. so i waited a little over 3 months before i got fitted. during that 3 months, my gums got to heal and toughen up from eating.

my denturist told me that he would make teeth that looked "like teeth" and he would not make them all the same size or make them dazzingly white.

for the first while, i had to have all my veg blitzkreiged in a blender and drink them. then i moved on to blitzkreiged into small pieces. and lightly steaming or boiling the veg works wonders.

how many good teeth do you have? if you only have a few that need bone grafts and implants and you can afford to do so - the choice is really up to you.

i wish i had have had all of my teeth taken out 8 years ago - imagine? i would have had 8 years of practice with dentures right now!!! not 24 days.

but that is/was my situation - you have to go with what your gut tells you...and your husband and dentist tell you and make your decision.

if there are any more questions that you have - please don't hesitate to ask! xoxo

    2. Kymber, I have 24 of my natural teeth left, 2 of those have crowns. I have a bridge that spans 3 teeth. Then a large space missing 3 teeth where another bridge failed.
The bone grafts and implants they want me to have will total over $8k. I'm retired already, but my husband is retiring in Jan. And I need to make a decision!

One of my biggest worries is that the upper plate will gag me, as I have an easy gag reflex. I remember my grandmother's teeth gagged her and she carried them around in her pocket more than they were in her mouth! Ha!

I really don't want to have bone grafts and all that...
I've gone to the same dentist since he was fresh out of dental school. He now has kids in college, so he's almost like family. He is just aghast at the thought of me wanting him to pull all my teeth. But he also knows the struggle I've had and how hard I work to hold onto the teeth I have left. I literally get my teeth cleaned 3x a yr! And you should see the basket of teeth cleaning crap I have in my bathroom. I'm a fanatic about it. On the otherhand my husband rarely flosses and he has every tooth he was born with!! Obviously I have weak teeth, and I'm to the point where I'm thinking Just how much more money am I going to invest in this?

I'm glad you talked about letting your gums heal and that your denturist made your teeth look more natural by not making them perfect. And they really do look so natural!

So, I need to do some hard thinking, don't I?
Btw, my husband was very impressed that you would go to so much trouble for a total stranger, and like me, he's very grateful to you for trying to help me!

      Again, thank you so much!
      Vonne xoxo

    3. Vonne - my number 1 piece of advice to you is to go and see another dentist. not that your dentist isn't good - but get another's advice on your situation. 24 teeth is a lot of natural teeth to still have - do they bother you at all? if those teeth don't bother you and you can afford the implants - that might be the route to go. but please get another dentist's advice.

and if there are any more questions and you wish this discussion could be more private - my email address is kymberzmail@gmail.com

i am glad to help in any way i can. xoxox

  9. Sweet Kymber,

In time you'll be able to eat vegetables with those new dentures. Your new dentures (teeth) look really good. What's amazing girlie is your mouth has healed and feels so much better. That's truly what counts!!!

Love your pictures, you're a gorgeous woman!!!

    Love you Girlie,
    Sandy
Sanding hugs and love to Jam as well.

    1. Sweet Sandy - Jam always loves to get your hugs. he caught 5 trout and one perch yesterday for you. we ate the perch for breakfast (deeeelish) and the trout are for supper.

Sweet Sandy - the thing about these teeth that mean the most to me is that i don't worry about partials slipping or falling out when i am at an event which used to happen all the time these past 8 years. but i have been out to 3 events in the past 24 days and i was not worried at all about the dentures slipping or anything. it felt good.

my next door neighbour/best friend is getting married this saturday and i will be glad to have these teeth and not be worried.

you know that we are both sending love back to you, always! xoxoxoxoxox

  12. Hey, I just enjoyed getting to see all these great pics of you! What a lovely lady!

I've had ups and downs with my teeth for years and finally got two implants a couple of years ago (teeth, not boobs). So far, so good. Given some of my pain was there whether the tooth was or not, I've never been sure pulling them would solve the problem. I've done a little self diagnosing and it's amazing at how much better things can be if you put a name to them (whether it's right or wrong - but as I've found out, doctors/dentists sure don't know everything!).

    1. Miss Mia - i am not even sure if this is demeaning comment??? i jumped into the ocean with my teeth in, jumped into the river with my teeth and never lost them. i love my teeth. and i was very glad to answer some of Vonne's questions. if i look unreal, you must have been looking at pics of me in my mermaid tail....teehee...it makes me feel very unreal - so thank you. and by saying go on fishing - do you mean fishing for trout, striped bass and mackeral? that's a very great suggestion and i appreciate it.

one thing though, don't go bothering my buddy Rob. he's got tough skin, he's been through a lot in his lifetime but never complains, and spent his and his wife's whole life together trying to raise educated, work-minded kids.

if you have any problems with me - i have no trouble with that. but please leave my friend Rob alone.

      thank you.
