a lotta pics coming as i play catch-up!

what kind of sister would i be if i didn't start the post with obligatory pics of the sky and river for my sweetest Helga? a pretty bad sister i would think. notice how the clouds are reflecting into the river...as above, so below.

these are pics that jambaloney took when he went fishing the other day. did he catch us some fish? are the clouds reflected in the river in the above-pic? yer darn tootins' baby!

trouts and sprouts. we eat this several times a week during trout season! dear sweet one (otherwise known as Stephen) - see jambaloney's reply back to your comment on the previous post. we do have fishing seasons that our wildlife enforcement officers pay strict attention to and the regulations are strictly enforced with heavy penalties. it's because we on the island really do want to protect all of our natural resources in order for them to be enjoyed, and to be available, for all future generations to come.

next up - a breakfast that is local, sustainable and deeeeelishous! trouts from the river, potatoes from the garden and wild blueberries that we picked  - soooooo yummmmeh!

Hey Winston Buddy - nice to see ya? i know that you have been terribly busy lately but i also know that you are dying for a cat update (everyone else can just moan through the next few pics - bahahahahah!)

here's Marley-Bow....whacked from the nip.

Frankly is trying to keep his eyes open. trust me. but he's whacked too.

Noodie-noo gets his share of the nip and heads for the back of daddy's chair. hello, my name is kymber and i am raising catnip addicts.

addiction is no laughing matter - you stop that laughing Winston!

up next - how about some delicious butter chicken and aloo gobi??? oh heaven on a plate! with kimchi, of course! i love aloo gobi...it is filled with so many delicious, aromatic and healthy spices!

and scarlet runner beans...growing up Jimmy's thresher in the front yard just as i imagined they would! they are producing huge bean pods that i will let dry and then collect the beans for more planting next spring. soon Jimmy's thresher will be covered in beautiful scarlet runners!

can you believe the colour of this amaranth? oh many seeds will be saved to plant this gorgosity all around the yard!

there are very few things on this planet that are naturally blue - did you know that? one of those things is borage. so beautiful. and edible too.

speaking of blue - these next 2 pics are for Sandy - she always takes great shots of the moon. did you know that on August 31 that we experienced a Blue Moon? you can read more about Blue Moons here.

we had cloudy skies on August 31 so i wasn't able to take any pics of the Blue Moon. but i got some gorgeous pics of it on August 30. have a look:

we were in the hottub just loving the sky. so very beautiful!

speaking of beautiful - check out these babies!

some carmelized onions and peppers:

put 'em all together with some sour cream and fresh herbs and you got yourself some delicious steak-wraps - yummeh! we love food!

now for a beautiful sunset to share with Helga (of course)...as well as Sandy, Jane, lotta joy, Practical P and Brigid.

we have some beautiful skies and i love to take pics of them.

sorry if it's boring but this is the end of our day...and we look to the sky and it tells us that it will be a beautiful day at the river....

the evening sky never lies. it's an old fisherman's saying - "red sky at night, sailor's delight. red sky at morning, sailor's take warning". i love it.

speaking of red, how about some gorgeous fermented beets and daikon radish with garlic??? these babies will be ready in 3 days. we love fermented food and how good it is for your stomach flora and digestive tract. we eat at least one serving of fermented food a day. i insist!

oh ya - more bulgogi. what can i say? bulgogi is a delicious way to use up cheap, tough pieces of meat!

and lastly - the red sunset was right!  it was a gorgeous river day! as we had stuffed our faces full of bulgogi, rice, kimchi, stir-fried cabbage and carrot (with sesame oil, turmeric and cumin), and raw beans and radish - we decided to take raw peppers, cucumber, radish, celery and fresh-made hummus down to the river for our afternoon snack.

life is good!

    2. bahahahahahah! i did say your cat was fat but then again - so is Marley - bahahahahah! and yes, they are catnip addicts. i grow it for them in pots now because they destroyed their catnip tire, especially Franklin! so now i just give them each one leaf in the afternoons and they go down like tanks! i am glad that you like the pics - i take them all of the time, can't help myself!

as for the food - i will never make you eat something that you don't like and if you ever came to visit i would make you a bunch of food to try!

oh i am jealous that you got to see the blue moon! but so glad that you and Senior enjoyed it!

  2. Sweet Kymber,
I love all the pictures of the beautiful sky, blue moon and sunset. Thank you so much for sharing them with all of us, especially me :-)
OMG, the pictures of all this delicious food is putting 10 pounds on me just from looking at them!!! Everything looks delicious.
Your amaranth is vibrant. I tried growing it this year in a big pot, and a cat from our neighbor down the street decided I didn't need it. He dug up all my seeds and did his business (little brat).
What do you put in your hummus?
Lots of hugs to the both of you:-)
    Your Friend,
    Sandy

the hummus pictured above is plain chickpea hummus - just mashed chickpeas, olive oil, garlic and tahini. i also make roasted garlic hummus, roasted red pepper hummus and zucchini hummus. let me know if you want recipes. hugs back to you from both of us!

  3. Best be careful of whacked out cats. They'll be visiting you while you sleep for some munchies. If not choking you to get you up!

But I'd rather you send some of those eats this way. They all look much better to deal with.

And the borage grows wild here.

    1. bahahahahahahah! thanks for stopping by Winston, buddy! and no worries about the whacked cats - they go down like tanks and then wake up screeching for food later in the afternoon. they never choke us like in the pic you sent - too funny!

you know that if you ever make it up this way again that i will cook whatever you want and fill you up to the brim!

ugh - wild borage??? i am soooo jealous! i love borage!

  4. Beautiful pics, and your food always makes my stomach rumble! My wife and I spent last night on the beach with some friends, enjoying the surf, the cool Gulf breeze, and the blue moon reflecting off the water, after having a delicious dinner of mahi mahi in a new restaurant on the island, complete with good live music! Been a long time since we had so much fun. You would love my friend's wife, she's a lot like you! We had to dissuade her from going swimming in the Gulf after dark! That's pretty dangerous, especially with the rip currents left over from Hurricane Isaac.

  5. My Dear Sis - You really nailed it here ! These pics are fan- freak- en- tastic ! The beautiful, peaceful river with the cloud reflections is amazing - and I want to come right now !

What a visual treat - you really have Heaven on earth in your backyard !

Your food at the Manor is true culinary delight if I've ever seen it - your presentation is always spot on. You're the BEST cook ever ! I swear you could have an Inn there and bus loads of tourists would kill for one of your meals! But - I do know that would just drive you nuts.

I love the babies - they really are hilarious to look at and ever so cute ! No wonder you're so busy with this and that - a great place to call home hon !

Thanks for the treat sis - and have I told you today that I love you always and forever ! xoxoxoxoxoxo And a Day !

i am not the best cook ever but i do like making food. i love to try new recipes and whatnot and i like to tweak things my own way. as for an Inn - no way in hell girl! no way in hell!

ya those babies are a little wonky and strange but i love them. and they are really good for a laugh when the 3 of them are running around the yard together - bahahah!

  8. How I wish I could be there in person. uh, I'd be sure and honk so you could throw on clothes. If you cooked it, and took the first bite (just to be safe) I'd sure take the second one. No wonder you are so fit and trim. You put a lot of thought into what you eat, and I doubt if you ever eat more than just enough.

Send Jamie to the post office. It's GOT to be there now.

    1. lotta - i wish you could be here too. and once you were comfortable we could all run around naked and not have a care in the world! no worries about taste-testing - jambaloney will eat just about anything which is how i have learned to perfect my recipes over the years - bahahahahah - there have been several "mishaps" shall we say! and i would make sure to cook up some of your favourite meals and introduce you to some new ones. we do put a lot of thought into what we eat - we started paying better attention several years ago and now it is just second-nature. we love good, fresh food and we have access to some really good local and seasonal food here - it's a joy to think about what we will eat today, tomorrow, etc. and plan out our meals.

oh crap. i will send him. totally forgot to check when we went to our last event. my bad. forgives?

  9. I have a sky picture, a double rainbow. Take a look and see how my pictures are marred by the town! I was at the ATT store. The skies are beautiful until I actually SEE what is there with the double rainbow.

    1. PracticalP - i saw your double rainbow and it was beautiful! i have actually never seen a double rainbow before - have you seen many? and yes, it's hard to take nice pictures of the sky when there are buildings and telephone poles and whatnot cluttering up the sky...sigh. wish you could see this sky. you'd love it.

  19. Wildflower - bahahahahahahahah! i don't think catnip works the same on people the way it does on cats - and i certainly would never recommend smoking it - ugh - that would be awful - bahahahahah!

but it does make a really nice tea...herbalogists prescribe it to people who have trouble sleeping. we love catnip tea!

  20. Ha ha all your cats looked drugged up to the eye balls!

Sounds like I need some catnip tea then. I only sleep about 4 hours a night and it's not enough!
