woohoo - i finally won something!!!

woohoo for me - i won my friend Sweet Sandy's Giveaway for a CRKT Pazoda Knife and Eat'nTool! lucky me! like really lucky me - i never win anything. Sandy does some really cool giveaways so if she isn't already on your blog list - add her! you can find her here.

now if i could just get Stephen to send me the ugly pink walther...you can learn more about it here. but it looks like DFW is getting it - dang nabbit. i love that little gun!!!

in other news, we are being hit by Tropical Storms...and getting lots of rain. that's ok - we love rain and it helps jambaloney dig the trench! he has almost reached the level of the footing at the house and then we never need to worry about the basement ever flooding again - a big woohoo for that!

even tho it's been rainy and grey, that's no reason to not pretend that you live in the caribbean and eat some really delicious food. lunch the other day was chilled avocado soup, with ginger, cinnamon, mint and orange chunks, and deep-fried coconut shrimp with a lime-chili dipping sauce....can you say DEE-VINE??!?!? oh it was so yummy!

here's the obligatory sky pic for my sis Helga...don't thank me guys...you all are very welcome!

time to go and see if the river is still backed up. oh and check out all of the new little things growing around the manor - check out these tiny-tine flowers:

these are what are known as miniature St. John's Wort - they are so tiny!

and a not-so-tiny-big-fat-caterpillar:

this is regular-sized St. John's Wort - the stuff has amazing healing qualities and i dry the flowers to make a lovely healing and soothing tea for during the winter months.

frog, frog, froggie, frog, frog. that's the song i sing as loud as i can whenever i see one of these. i don't care that they are actually toads! i love them and we have tons of them this year.

woohoo! looks like the county backhoes have been out and opened the river's path to the ocean...the river is only a little backed up now...still freakin freezin tho!

after lots of rain i always go looking for mushrooms on our forest floor...check out this beauty:

and this one:

we had a lovely afternoon at the river...and saw a gorgeous osprey:

read our books, lay in the sun, gave thanks for the good fortune that we are living here...and thought of all of our friends!

  1. Hey kymber.

    Congratulations on the knife win!!!!!

I wound up not getting the pink lady. Turns out we already have a P22 ... I guess I should have asked first.

Would love the recipe to the avacado soup, looks good. Coconut shrimp is my favorite way to eat them. Husband cooks it a couple of times a year. It's a lot of prep, the way he makes them, but they are so delicious.

B-T-W, went to the green market today but no one was selling Kimchi. I still want to try it! Bought some local made cheese & grass fed pork & ground beef.

Do you eat those mushrooms? I love them but don't know enough about wild ones as to whether they are poisonous or not.

    Stay dry!

    1. hey DFW thanks! i'm sorry about the pink lady - that sucks because she is a real beauty!!! the avocado soup is really easy:

chop up 2 ripe avocados and dump them in the blender. add salt and pepper to taste. add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. add a 1inch piece of ginger. lastly, add 2 and a half to 3 cups of milk (depends on how thick you like it). then puree until smooth. dump it in a bowl, add chunks of orange and chill in the fridge for at least an hour. that's it!

oh yes - you must try some kimchi!!! Stephen says below that you can get it Publix. oh and yum on the local cheese, pork and beef!!!

we don't eat those mushrooms as we still can't tell which are safe and which are poisonous - we have a mushroom guide book but they all kind of look the same to me. it's something we are going to put some serious work into this fall - we get a ton of mushrooms after it rains, and we love mushrooms so if any of them are not poisonous, we would love to eat them.

  2. It shall arrive in a box marked, 'glass fragile.' Tell DFW she can find Kimchi at Publix in the fresh vegetable section in the cooler in glass jars and it's great. Now, I wonder, would Customs take your little pink pistol.....

  4. Stephen....I was on my way to your place (it's three hours away) when I realized you don't want me knowing where your place is. Gimme a break here, bud.

And I was staring at Kimchi at Publix this morning and they even have it at Winn Dixie. After Stud's horror stories, I'm scared to even buy it.

Kymber, do tell what a poisonous mushroom looks like, versus one that won't kill ya.

    1. bhaahahahahah - good one lotta! (Stephen - time to run and hide - bahahahahah!). go ahead and try the kimchi - it's just fermented cabbage, but it's really, really spicy! but it is so good for you!!!

lotta - we are trying to figure out how to tell the difference and when i master it, and feed one to jambaloney, i'll let you know if he lives - bahahahahaha! i am dying to try these wild mushrooms but i am actually still too chicken!

  7. Hey sis - Congratulations on your win - and it looks like you're getting the pink pistol too ! SWEET !

The backhoes sure come quickly there - so that's good. The yacht is safe. Coconut shrimp, flowers, birds, and forest mushrooms - all equal perfection with or without rainy days.

Stay safe and dry cause we heard the Maritimes was going to be hit with the tail end of that weather system coming from the States.

Nice cloud formations - looks like cotton candy.

I Love you Always - Forever and a Day Sis ! xoxoxoxoxo

    1. hey sis - thanks so much! oh don't i wish i was getting that pistol - i love it! yep, the county backhoes usually show up within a day or two of the river backing up - i think someone calls them and tips them off. they usually come out once or twice a summer to unblock the river. and yes - we have been getting lots of rain the past few days, today we are supposed to have thunderstorms and tomorrow is supposed to be super windy. after that it looks like beach days - woohoo! ya, i love the cotton candy clouds too - teehee! i love you back sis, always, forever and a day! xoxoxoxo

St John's Wort growing in the wild, that fabulous! I can only imagine drying this and making all kinds of things for medicinal purposes. I've never seen it growing in the wild in places I've lived. It has a beautiful flower :-)
Great mushroom pictures girl, are you picking these? Or are they poisionous?
    Give Jambaloney a hug.

  18. It does sound devine. But, did you devein (your shrimp I mean ;-)

I'm glad to hear that you won something great. It takes me right back to those fireplace tools I won on Canadian Preppers Network all those years ago (and which are now too heavy for me to use).

Thank goodness you mentioned mushrooms. I am all ready to start my own - from the how-to you sent me to @ Phaelen's except for the peatmoss. I'll add that to today's run to town.

It's raining here on the S. Shore too. I love it :-D
