squrwemells.....oh jeesh!

a beautiful day for sure!

but a fricken squermell came on the porch through a catdoor, ate the whole bowl of snackedy-moes at the crack of dawn and then couldn't figure out how to get out so screeched his face off. ugh. 2 of the catdoors don't even have doors on them - and then there is all of the open space at the top of the porch to get out. but no, this guy just sat and screeched! at 4:30am!!! so we got up - even though last night we talked about sleeping in together until 9am!!! didn't happen kids. we had to get up and then there's feeding these 4 cats who have really gotten used to be "mcsauged" and fed whenever they feel like it. oh ya  i forgot to mention Moey-Shambie getting into bed with us in the middle of the night and grooming himself for 2 straight hours. and he makes the loudest licking noises!

wasn't a bad day tho kids! jambaloney brought home crab yesterday that had been caught that very day!

of course we made proper california rolls and dipping sauce.

need a treat after breakfast but you still have garden jobs and it's not dinner-time yet? yo dudes - plate a fruit?

strawberries from the mainland are in their peak this time of year! strawberry, spinach, fresh roasted almonds and feta anyone? how about a "to-die-for" dressing of black currant vinegar and hemp oil?

with lots of pepper of course!

mid-afternoon break was some leftover sushi rice and bean sprouts.

supper will be steak and grilled veggies - yummeh! but supper ain't happening until we get a nap! we're wore out kids! and the deer flies are now out. jambaloney is covered in deer fly bites! they love him more than me - thank goodness because the black flies love me!!!!

another horribly wonderful day at the Manor. bed is calling and when bed calls - you don't answer back. you just follow bed's instructions.

sending love to all of you, expesiously (spelled like that on purpose!)

  1. Pet doors sure can make rural life interesting. :)
    That strawberry salad...omg. Yum!
I discovered your recipe sidebar and you would not believe how often your name is mentioned in our house. It's the Kymber Cooking Show around here, you put Martha Stewart to shame. :)

    1. hi Vonne - sooo nice to see you! and yes - having 4 cat doors on the porch makes for some interesting visitors - like jam's favourite bluejay who comes in, eats the snackedy-moes and then flies around in a panic until one of us goes and lets him out the door. and then there's that squirrel - arghghghgh! but the cats need all of the doors because they are all door guarders!!!! drives us nuts!

i really want to keep adding recipes to the food blog but i just don't have the time. your very sweet comment just make me get up and keep adding to it.

i love it when you visit - you are always uplifting in your comments and i thank you for that! xoxoxo

    2. Okay, now we must have pics of these little squirrel taters. :)

And thank you for your kind words! I wouldn't even know where to start with a blog, I'm not very tech savvy. I did recently open an Instagram acc and it took me 3 days to figure that out, lol! My nephew works overseas and he suggested it for photo sharing. It also dawned on me earlier today that I could use it for photo sharing with my blog friends since I don't have a blog. Then when I'm bragging about my giant tomatoes( for Texas) I can show photographic proof! Ha!
I'm only getting started, but if you're interested, it Instagram dot com / prairietallgrass. I'll be adding more pics soon, and I'm still not sure if I understand about how the comment thing works! Ha!
My husband is seriously paranoid about info going out on the internet so I'll probably go private with the Instagram acc before I start putting any shots of us on there, but I still need to figure all that out too. Okay. Check me out if you want. :)

I'm making your strawberry salad tomorrow. :)

    1. Ed - we have tiny red squirrels here - think the size of a small potatoe. by the time you got them skinned - you'd have half of a potatoe. just not worth the bother. but man do they screech! sending love buddy! xoxoxo

  5. Squirrel?? They don't last long around here. Several in our pack have a natural affinity for treeing and occasionally catch one before it can get up the tree.

Been a long time since I cleaned one!

    1. Kelly, hon - honestly these tiny red squirrels aren't worth the effort! waaay too small to bother cleaning and such. plus our 4 rescue cats are a bit spoiled...the squirrels here chase THEM away - bahahahah! xoxoxox

  6. Yikes! Heck of a way to be woken up from a deep sleep. Crazy, lunatic squirrel. And isn't it amazing how LOUD cats can be in the middle of the night? haha Lately, it has been the bull in the field next to the house. He munches on the dry grasses just outside the window and it sounds like someone out there eating potato chips!

Hope you get some good zzzzzzzz's without any interruptions.

  7. Oh, those little red devils! They are insane! My cat, Slimbo, grunts and licks. It is LOUD. I had to ban him from the bedroom. The only cat I ever let sleep on the bed was my girl, Tippet. She would snug up next to me and go out like a light - never moved. OOOOh! That salad! I may have to whip one up!

    1. Susan - we hear you on loud cat licking sounds - man he drives us near crazy! your Tippet sounds like a fantastic cat - i think it might be a female thing because these 4 males are the first ones i've had in my adult life. the first part of my adult life i just had girls and they never made this much racket!!!!i hope you whipped up that salad! xoxoxoxo

  8. That sounds like an adventure - like all things, living out where the critters are. Our local fluffy tail population are much more gray and are interested in the bird seed from the bird feeders. Poppy has discovered quite the entertainment value in trying to catch them.

    1. TB - i hope that you and your family are having a fantastic vacation - you deserve it buddy! and ya - we get lots of interesting visitors but nothing like bears or bobcats or coywolves - they all keep to themselves thank goodness! we don't even have raccoons! which just made me remember the raccoon encounter we had one year back in the city....we found the best way to control them was to save all of our food scraps throughout the day and set out the "raccoon buffet" on the step at night. our previous neighbours should have been thanking us! xoxoxooxx
