serious sunstroke number 1 of 2016!!!!

it was very cloudy yesterday afternoon - check out these clouds:

cloudy....but beautiful:

very cloudy!

 the sunset was amazing:

today jambaloney went to work on-site for half of the day....that is if you consider showing up for work at 6 and working until after noon just half of a day....i waited for him to get home because it looked like this:

i opened up the greenhouse and gave the cats their nip. the temp was around 60C (15F). it was gorgeous!

did odd jobs around the house and then he got home and we got to work! after we put sunscreen on his face. i put on my baby oil mixed with coffee grinds. i like getting brown by the sun! i mulched the garlic beds:

lots of garlic:

truckdura down at the beginning of the road to the river:

jambaloney was weeding the strawberry hugelkulture and gathering dead raspberry and blackberry bushes to make fine mulch so that we can aerate our pea bed, carrot bed and radish and beet bed - woohoo! lots of planting tomorrow.

the crazy little daffodils that were supposed to be tulips are all blooming...and pretty:

our regular daffodils keep spreading every year:

our grape vine is finally showing some tiny nubs (for my friend W, who told jambaloney how to trim them):

another beautiful pic of the backyard with truckdura, the greenhouse, the sky and our loungers:

we have blue russian comfrey growing everywhere on our land....including in our compost pile:

i got a big bucket and stuffed it full of brand new baby comfrey leaves and water. i will let this cook up in the greenhouse for a few days and then water all of my plants with it. comfrey tea is wonderful for any kind of plant!

indications that indeed the faeries have been around!

they regularly clean their homes of faery moss that they use in their homes in a variety of ways.

truckdura filled with dead blackberry and raspberry bushes. yummmmm....awesome to make fine mulch with mulchdura!

tomorrow my first job is to mulch the strawberry hugelkulture....i started weeding it and jambaloney finished it.

and one last pic before we came in the house, drank a gallon of berkey-filtered rainwater each and then crashed.

both of us were sunstroked - not badly - just enough to make us want to lay down and sleep. tomorrow is a full day and it supposed to be gorgeous out! i will slather my man in sunscreen several times a day, i will cover myself in baby oil and coffee grinds, we will get out and plant, plant, plant....and if everything goes as planned - the mermaid tail will make it to the river - woohoo!

spring is really here! xoxoxo to all of you!

  2. I don't know much about metric, but I think that 60 celsius is REALLY hot in fahrenheit, ha. I love those sky loungers! I can just imaging how comfy they must be. And comfrey? I'll have to look into how that grows down in these parts.

Thanks for sharing, y'all be safe in the sun! Don't burn your mermaid and/or merman bits! HAHA!!!

    Love to you both!

    1. 1st Man - it was a really beautiful day - just gorgeous! ya the sky loungers are pretty awesome - we just got them. our old ones (from 12yrs ago) had lived good lives but were falling apart last summer so we had to get new ones. as for comfrey - i think if it is kept regularly watered - i think it can live anywhere. i can send you a small root that you can keep in a pot and grow comfrey year-round and then transplant it to the farm when you move there. but it does need regular watering. no worries about the mermaid bits...and jambaloney says to remind you that he is a trout not a merman - bahahahahahah! sending love back to the both of you! xoxoxox

    1. TB - i'm not a burner but jambaloney is. i always make sure he has layers of sunscreen on his face and any exposed parts of his body. however, you do need some exposure for sunlight in order to make vitamin D the natural way. so i put him out in the sun in the early morning with no sunscreen...but by 11am - we coat him down. much love back buddy! xoxo

    1. Dawn - my dad used to work all day in the coalmine. during the summer, when he came home at about 5 every evening - he sat outside on the porch for an hour or so. my dad always had the best tan of any of us!!! my legs are white as a ghost so no shame there! i find my legs are the last thing to get tanned. as for comfrey - ther is nothing like it to amend bed, feed animals and a million medicinal uses for humans! sending love. xoxox

    1. Dani - no worries. i know when to call time in the sun. after a long winter, we need to rejuvenate our bodies and make natural vitamin D. i allow us to be out in the natural sunlight for a few hours every morning when the sun is at it's weakest. then i slaver jambaloney with sunscreen. i find that for myself, after 2 days in the the pure sun, i don't need the sunscreen. we also break every day during the summer when the sun is at it's zenith. sending much love. xoxox

  7. Sweet Kymber,

You both have worked hard out on your property. Love the garden beds you've cleaned up. Stay cool, don't get too hot, I wouldn't want either of you too get sick from too much sun.
Sending hugs, and love your way.

  8. I want to know more about this baby oil and coffee grounds thing... and, yes, with the others - PLEASE be careful with the sun and your skin.

    1. Susan - the coffee grinds mix with the baby oil...and the baby oil becomes brown. so you end up with a product that is already brown going on your body before you even step in the sun. teehee. it's my famous trick.

i am very careful with the sun - see all of my comments above. but i am a big believer in being out in the sun and letting the sun work it's magic - which includes tanning you. sending love. xoxox

  9. Don't cook yourself. My dad did that for many years (without the baby oil and coffee grounds) and is now battling skin cancer. He has had many surgeries and has another one tomorrow. So go easy on the sun roasting.

Sounds like you've been busy, and please tell about the comfrey benefits for plants. Is it like a green fertilizer? I've never heard of using it.

    Stay cool!

    1. no worries hobo....but thanks for the concern and i am sorry about your Dad.

we've been really busy and loving it because in another week or two...all the planting and mulching is done and we can spend our days down at the ocean - woohoo!

here is a really good link for all of the uses of comfrey:

  10. Vitamin D from sun is much better for you than any medical Vitamin D....We got hatless in the morning before the sun gets too hot then cover up in the afternoon. Nice gradual tanning and we just feel better from the real sun!
