LobstersRUs and a whole schlew of other stuff!

it's been a crispy couple of days this past week!

although it has been a little chillier than normal, we haven't been hit with any more snow - thank goodness!

anyway, i mentioned in the previous post that jambaloney was doing some contract I.T. work at LobstersRUs. here is a link to LobstersRUs for anyone who is interested. LobstersRUs is a pretty huge facility that holds, handles and sells all of the lobsters in our area of cape breton island. LobstersRUs is also the EXCLUSIVE seller of the now world-famous Fourchu Lobster! here is a link to an article about the founder and CEO of New York City's premier chef school, the French Culinary Institute, who believes that Fourchu lobster is the best lobster in the world!

you will recall that our tiny sister community is Fourchu! Framboise and Fourchu share our Volunteer Fire Department! our best friends c & b live in Fourchu! our bf c works on the crab boats all summer long and our bf b is a lobsterfisherman, as is our dear friend d and just about everybody who lives in our 2 communities!

Fourchu lobster is really making a name for itself due to it's inclusion on the menu at the French Culinary Institute's restaurant.

i don't have a pic of the sign that says Fourchu - but i do have one that shows South Fourchu and Framboise.

here is a pic of the tiny harbour from the main road.

a different shot which shows more of the houses.

some of the boats at the dock.

lobster traps!

Fourchu is a tiny little community that we just love! the charity game that we play every friday night called "chase the ace" is held in Fourchu. it's such a pretty village!

anyway, last wednesday night we went with our Fourchu best friends, c & b, to our nearest little town, St. Peter's, for a night on the town to celebrate their daughter c's birthday! we had much awesome food, great conversation and a wonderful time was had by all! then on friday evening, c & b invited us over for supper before chase the ace - we had delicious fried rice, pineapple meatballs, pineapple pork, and the most awesome beef stirfry with onions and peppers - it was to die for! c also made her delicious potatoe salad and macaroni salad. because i was stuffing my face on the rice and beef stirfy, i didn't have much room for the potatoe and macaroni salad. that was ok because for my dessert i chose a plate of potatoe salad - bahahahahahah!

we had a great meal and then jambaloney and b went down to the community centre to open it for chase the ace. me and c stayed behind and did the dishes to some awesome 80's music radio channel that she found and danced and chatted. then we went down to the community centre to wait to see who won this week. once we cleared the hall - we went back to c & b's house. a tiny bit of a party ensued and yes i drank a whole bottle of wine!!! over the course of 4 and a half hours, mind you, but still eh? jeesh! blame c - she's always telling me to have another glass of wine!!!

then saturday night was a benefit dance for one of our friends. our small communities and people from other small communities in our area managed to raise $8,600 to help offset travel costs and other expenses associated with our friend needing chemotherapy. a wonderful time was had by all - we had a hypnotist do a show and it was pretty hysterical. our friend b goes under in a blink and the hypnotist thanked him especially because b has been to several of his shows and always acts as a volunteer. our other friends who volunteered to be hypnotized were all really funny - but the funniest was when the hypnotist told all of them that they were michael jackson. they were all trying to pull of michael's moves but when b started trying to moonwalk all the way across the dance floor - we really lost it - bahahahahahah!

anyway, jambaloney is under the kitchen floor trying to prop up some sagging spots. that poor guy's work just never ends!!!

and for anyone interested - i have started up the Framboise Manor Good-Eats blog again. today's recipe is carrot/ginger dressing.

tomorrow's recipe will be kimchi!

  2. Gurlie I am tickeled pink over the lobsterRus, and all happy that you get to eat the best lobster in the world...but do they ship? Guess I will go find out. : )

Senior and I went to a comedy club once with friends, we saw a hypnotist there , that made volunteers on stage think they were chickens...it was dang hilarious...

  4. I think I only had lobster once, in San Francisco. I see them for sale here sometimes in one of the bigger towns, I always feel sorry for them. I think if we lived near the ocean I would shoplift them and let them go.

I wouldn't want to be hypnotized. Somebody might get more than they bargained for. Same reason I don't drink much, I'm not sure what might happen. ;-)

You guys have it good. Beautiful place to live, good friends, good community. You and J have your act together.

    1. Harry - we can send some to you, too - i'll send you an email and work out the details if you want some. i grew up eating fresh lobster and let me tell you - these are the best lobster i have ever eaten. actually, no, that's a lie. the best lobster are when the fishing boats are coming in to the harbour and emptying their traps - the fishermen here size and weigh their lobster and toss any that don't meet the requirements. then, a bunch of us kids go out and pluck the lobster off the reef, boil them in salt water on the beach - THAT is the best lobster in the world!

Harry, jam doesn't want to be hypnotized for the same reasons as you. me - i keep trying but it just doesn't work on me!!!

buddy - we are so grateful to live in such a beautiful place with so many wonderful and caring people - we did a lot of homework and research but man - we really scored big when we landed here. we are so appreciative of how well our communities have accepted us. thanks buddy!

  5. You say the floor is sagging? I don't suppose it is sagging under additional pounds from eating so much good food? And yes, this is all about sour grapes. LOL

  6. Sweet Kymber,

YUM Lobster!!!! It's truly hard to get fresh lobster in this part of the country.
The last time I had fresh lobster was when I visited Massachusetts years ago. Now you can get the frozen stuff but it's not as good as the fresh stuff.
Everyone did really good with raising $8,600 to help a friend needing chemotherapy. It's a lot to have to figure out how to pay for therapy when you're recovering from a medical situation.
I'm going to go over and check out your food blog........borrow a few recipes :-)

Tell Jambaloney to take a break, and relax for a bit.

Sending hugs and love to you both,
    Sandy

    1. Sweet Sandy - you say the word and i will get 2 delicious lobsters off to you right away! Sandy - it's amazing - our communities are quite poor and lots of people don't have jobs and yet - no matter what - when someone needs help our communities pull together! these people are very aware of people needing help and they always help! we feel such gratitude to be among such people!

jam always listens to you! so i tell him "Sweet Sandy says" and then he listens - bahahahahahha! oh i hope you have a really good time fishing tomorrow! cross your fingers and hope that my man gets us a garbage bag full of smelt tomorrow! much love always honey! xoxox

  7. What a wonderful place you live in. I can see now why you wanted so very much to move there.
I miss seafood. I'm sure growing up on the Texas coast has something to do with that. What sucks is that since the BP oil spill I can't bring myself to eat anything from the coast. I sure do miss it though!

    1. oh Sci - gurl, you just wouldn't even believe how fantastic these people are! cape bretoners are known for their hospitality - but they are also known to call someone an outsider even if they lived here for 30yrs! these people have been balm to our souls - so accepting and inviting - we love them so much! you would love the people up here - they are salt of the earth, no nonsense and smart as whips. in fact, i think they all might be Texans!!!

i am so sorry about that stupid effin BP spill. i wouldn't trust the seafood either. and of course you miss it! lots of love to you and Mars always! xox

  10. Your community really pulls together. I just love to hear about that. World famous lobster, eh? Well, if that doesn't pull a little fishing village together with some healthy community pride, I don't know what will. :-) I absolutely love the photo of the boats at the wharf. Classic coastal Nova Scotian scenery. Beautiful.
