a night out on the town!

woohoo! tonight we are having a night out on the town...something we haven't done since we moved here in 2010!!! yes, we have gone to a variety of events and dances at our community centre...which is exactly 1km down the street!!! and we have also gone to events and dances at our sister community centre in Fourchu...which is about a 12 minute drive from here! but we haven't had a "night out on the town". more about that later!

these next few pics are for Mamma Bear at Challenged Survival...actually, they are really for her Marine. i thought that he would like to see what the cats have been up to while we have been having such a nice couple of warm, sunny, winter days.

here's our cranky little Nudie-Noo....he's the oldest of the bunch, we think he is about 12 or so. doesn't matter how old he is - he loves getting up on truckdura!!!

we were all on the porch when we heard a thud - so of course, both of our other cats went running to see what was going on!

Nudie-Noo is on the truck, Mobie-Moe is sitting on the stones looking at him and Frankie Blue Eyes is on the step. Frankie Blue Eyes does everything his brothers do.

The Man was craving some steak yesterday but i was craving teriyaki...so we split the difference! he almost cried when i took a beautiful t-bone and cut it in strips to marinate. we used 2 steaks and i cut a bit off of each one to marinate. here's one of his cut-up steaks:

with cabbage, green pepper and hot pepper in a ginger carrot dressing...with kimchi of course!

and that there is my teriyaki-marinated steak strips with delicious sticky rice, a bit of the cabbage salad and of course - kimchi!!! we love our kimchi around here! it's so good for you!

next up - we love an afternoon snack to share between dinner and supper. here's one that's loaded with goodness and will keep you working until suppertime!

that's some spinach sauteed in butter with salt and pepper, kimchi - of course! some pickled onions and some pickled hot peppers - what a great afternoon snack!

to be followed 2hrs later with stirfried cabbage, 4 different coloured peppers, onions, broccoli and cauliflower - served with spagettini and all of it drenched in garlic/ginger olive oil. some parsley, some parmesan and kimchi round out the meal.

speaking of meals - woohoo - tonight we are going out to dinner. if the weather holds, that is. we have a storm warning of anywhere from 2-40cms of snow so it's anyone's guess?!?!? if the weather holds, we will be going out to our town of St. Peter's - a prettier town just doesn't exist! we'll be going with our friends c&b to celebrate their daughter's birthday which was like 3 weeks ago - bahahahah! the weather has not been co-operating for this birthday celebration/night out on the town for a few weeks now. fingers crossed eh? we want to spend time out on the town with our friends and their daughter! i am not sure if i will order the fisherman's platter or the regular fish and chips.

anyway - jamby is working at LobstersRUs today. my friends will pick me up and take me into town and we will meet jam there. i am quite excited. it should be a really fantastic time!

  4. Sweet Kymber,

    Lobster YUM!!!!

The pictures of your cats are adorable, I'm pretty sure The Marine will love them.
It's nice to see the sun shining and making it a comfortable winter. I'm hoping the weather stays calm so you can enjoy your evening out with Jambaloney and friends.

Steak cooked both ways looks really good. I haven't had a steak in sometime. When Tank had his birthday the guys had a big T Bone, like Jambaloney's pictured above, I had chicken.
The picture of the steak above has made me crave steak.............................poor Bulldog Man, now I'm going to hound him to take me out for steak.
I'll tell him it's your fault I'm craving steak Bahahahahahahaha.......

Enjoy tonight, be careful and stay warm.
Lot's of love to you both.
    Your Friend,
    Sandy

    1. Sweet Sandy - we didn't have lobster when we were out but i did have some awesome deep fried halibut and scallops - oh! the scallops were to die for. i hope my friend W reads this comment and i hope it gives him a kick in the butt to come up and get some scallops - that's an inside joke, Sandy - teehee! we love our cats as all 3 are strays and all have very different personalities - it's fun to watch them interract together! i hope the Marine likes the pics!

Sandy - we had a great time out but were hit with a real 2ft-visibility blizzard on the drive home - jam was white-knuckling the steering wheel the whole way! but we made it safe and sound!

jam grills up some delicious steaks - he likes his bleeding but i like mine to be completely dead. he got those steaks on sale last year and bought up a bunch of them. git yer butt up here, girl, and i'll get him to cook you up a feast!

we got belted last evening with another, i don't know, 10cms of snow, 15cms in some of the drift areas??? it was a lot but we stayed warm. jam spent the morning clearing cat paths, the deck, around vandura and truckdura and then went and got our atv/plow that we store at the neighbours. he's out there plowing right now.

lots of love back to you and all of yours, always including BDMAN (how is his finger?), Tank and the man-killing chihuahua - bahahahahahah! xoxoxo Sandy!

  7. The weather may not co-operate tonight either. We are getting some snow and wind down here on the south shore. The food looks good! Except for the sauteed spinach. lol I've tried cooking spinach many ways and have determined that I like my daily 2 cups raw. :-)

    1. Sue - however you get your spinach is good - it's so good for you! i love it raw, and steamed - but i really love it sauteed with butter, garlic and salt and pepper - yummeh! we got the snow and wind but thank goodness the worst of it held off until we were almost home! xoxo

  8. Have a wonderful time. I always cherish time spent in Nova Scotia. How can anyone be lukewarm about a place where even McDonalds serves a McLobster sandwich ???? Love to you both,

    1. Jane - we had a very wonderful time - thank you! and imagine my surprise when i read one of your comments here almost 2yrs ago and you mentioned the McLobster sandwich. i, in my hoity toity island manner said that only the mainland would serve something so crazy. then jambaloney corrected me by saying he had seen McLobster sandwiches here on the island - bahahahahah! oh well, not for me - the only lobster i eat is from Fourchu! i am a lobster snob - bahahahah!

  9. Girl..you got some nerve saying my one little cat is fat...your entire cat clan needs a treadmill...bahahahahahaha

Lobster r us ? please tell us all more
A night out? whoohooo...Senior and I have not done that in a really long time. Since my mom is losing her marbles, I have no reliable overnight sitter...

    1. ya, yer right Gurlie...all of our cats are pretty fat. but you gotta admit that yours is pretty fat too - bahahahahah! oh wow, i can't believe the interest in LobstersRUs...i will be very glad to do a post about it!!! Gurlie, we haven't had a night on the town since we got here a little over 4 years ago. now you know that we have been to dances and socials and events in our 2 communities but we haven't been out "to town". it was such a nice night and we had such a good time! it's expensive tho because we live in the middle of nowhere so the gas for a round trip to town is like $30 bucks - ouch! but we did have a really good time!

sorry that you don't have a reliable sitter. if you were closer, you could drop the boys off here, we'd lock them in the basement with the fat cats, give them some homesteading magazines from the 70's, and of course a sandwich and some water - then we'd proceed to play cards and have many hottub dips until you and Senior came to pick them up - bahahahahahah! i bet yer Mom is looking a little bit more reliable now eh? love to you and yours Gurlie - xoxoxo!!!

  10. The Marine is going to love the cat clan! I will show them to him tomorrow. We went to Red Lobster Monday. (We very seldom get to go out too) It is lobster fest for 10 weeks I had a lobster tail and shrimp scampi....yumeh! I would go every week if I could!

Hope you guys have a wonderful night out!
    Hugs!

    1. Mamma - i hope the Marine likes the antics of the cat clan! i wish he would tell me what kind of pics that he likes - then i could scour the internet and send him some pics every week. for now, he will have to make do with our crazy cats - bhaahahah!

i am so glad that you went to Red Lobster for a nice meal and evening out! when i lived in ontario the only place i could get lobster was at Red Lobster - needless to say, having grown up on island lobster, it just never tasted quite right. now i have access to my island lobster, and the special Fourchu lobster and i am getting my fill! i sure wish that you guys were closer - i could get you so much lobster that you would be sick of it - bahahahah! does the Marine like lobster?

much love Mamma to you and all of yours! xoxox

    2. The most favorite thing in the world for the Marine is baseball. Papa Bear records every baseball movie he can find on TV and I am always looking for movies when I get the chance to go to town. He played baseball in one form or the other all the way up until he went into the corps. It was raining today so we watched Field of Dreams for the 999th time.....LOL

Second thing is comedy...he still has his great sense of humor. Loves everything funny.

Much love to you and jam!

  12. Looks like you still have snow up there. It snowed here last night but didn't stick on the roads, just the grass and in the woods. Cold tonight, though.

I'm surprised you two have time for any more social activities, what with all the friends you have right around there.

Glad things are going well, maybe if we all hang on spring will get here eventually.

  13. I just bought up a some sirloins at $2.99 a pound. I will be grilling up some nice steaks that I got at a great price. No nights on the town but I'm happy doing the family potluck and saving money. The wood is cut, freezer is full, a bit of snow I don't have to go out in and life is pretty good.
