a rainbow, my brothers and holy moly - sick as crap!

here's a beautiful rainbow that jambaloney got a pic of a few mornings ago. he was out screeching at the ravens to get off the roof. they just squawked and jumped up and down harder. he pointed and clicked. so beautiful! minus all the raving squawkings that had us up by about 4am - arghghghghgh!

this is me and my gorgeous brother B in our fire truck. it says L'Ardoise on it because we bought it from the town of L'Ardoise for 10 bucks! he was teaching me and jambaloney all of the different parts. he's qualified in using/running it and he has been doing training sessions with it. we really appreciate that! he is going to teach us everything about that truck and have us both driving it in no time!

here is me and my brother B standing outside of my brother G and sister C's house:

my brother G and sister C were tearing down a shed on their land, then planning to burn it and a bunch of brush and needed a permit (sorry CC!), and a licensed member of the VFD had to be there with the truck. much fun, and many black fly bites were enjoyed by all. i got sick out of my mind for about 4 days!!!

next up - our brother G and sister C were up to visit for a week and to put new siding on their house. our brother B and our other brother D, as well as jambaloney helped out. i helped my brother D make the cuts in the siding - it needs to be very precise measurements! but here are my 2 amazing brothers and jambaloney acting like goofs. they work so well together and can get an amazing amount of work done in a short time. i love them all!

and i find it incredibly refreshing that my brother G yelled "come on kymber. we're going to ganormans!". i will explain how people are called what they are called here in another post. it's hard to learn unless you grew up here. i was going to need my new work boots for this job! see my new work boots below that my sister C gave to me. awesome eh?

she also got me some new slippers on this trip up. but they aren't slippers - they are more like little fancy dancing slippers and they come with a little gold bag. i will only use them at dances - they are just too fancy! but anyway, on the drive out to ganormans, my brother G called me sister for the first time. and then when we got to ganorman's, he called me sister a few more times. holy eff that felt so good!

at ganorman's i met R. i told him my name and told him where i lived and he said "wait. i think i know your husband. he gave me a lift from sydney (the city) a few weeks back." i gave him a big giant hug and told him that my husband had nothing but good words to say about him and he told me that my husband was a very courteous gentleman...i love hearing words like that.

anyway - some background on all of these brothers and sisters that we are accumulating like royal dalton china. my brother B...he was there when jambaloney got sucker-punched in the head. when i fell down crying - he and his wife, C, and his mother V were there to console me in seconds. but he was the first. and when we were doing the siding and i was getting eaten alive by black flies and deer flies - he kept waving his hat and saying "honey. you have to go in. you can't get any more bites". he always hugs me with the most warmest hugs. i love my brother B!

i love my brother G because he has spent an entire career in the canadian forces and the man knows everything about everything. i love him most tho, because of the talks that me and my sister, C, his wife, have about him. she sings his praises to high heaven and i gotta admit - based on what she says - the man is a second Jesus. yep - walks on water and the whole she-bang.

do you have any idea what it feels like to finally have family that truly care about you? i do. it is the most wonderful feeling in the world.

Edited - woops - that's how sick i am. i didn't even mention that getting eaten alive at G and C's, plus being out around here in the garden and getting eaten alive - yo dudes - i  have been sick for over a week! it's truly awful! but i am on the mend and hopefully have been able to hit up your blogs at least once or twice. give me a few days eh?

  2. kymber,

It does feel so good to have 'family' around you. We're lucky have a bunch of family near us in the Country. And, we continue to find new friends whom we consider family on a regular basis.

    Hope you continue to mend.

  4. A close up photo of you wow. You and Jam should be taking a multivitamin and vitamin C. The Vitamin c take 500 to 1000 mg Take both daily. I have been on them since Feb and I have not gotten sick. Trust me. My Dr says what your body does not use you will just pee it out.

    1. Rob - you are soooo right! we don't take regular vitamins as our food is our main source of getting all of our vitamins. but being that i have been sick and not eating, which means jambaloney is not eating right - we need to take some supplements. which we are doing for the past few days. thanks for caring and for the suggestion!

  5. I don't know black or deer flies. Do the transmit some kind of sickness? Or were you exposed to a cold or flu?

    1. kristine - where the heck are you? i thought black flies and deer flies were everywhere?!?!??! black flies actually take a little chunk out of your skin when they bite...and they leave venom in your blood. some people will get so sick they need to be hospitalized from only a few bites. i get pretty crazy and toxic when i have been bitten multiple times - jambaloney has to be bitten hundreds of times before he gets toxic. and deer flies are like the size of a golf ball and make this horrible buzzing sound. i hate both of those things!

  6. Gurlie- wow I finally got to see a updated pic of you. Love, love love the boots.where I can get a pair?
If you look at the rainbow picture at a glance for the first time, it gives you the optical illusion that its a planet.
I am so glad you had a visit with your brothers. looks like you all had a fun time. I bet yall ate good too...

we ate sooooo good that day - if you can believe it, my brother's mother made a full turkey dinner that day. i ate 2 full-plates, jambaloney ate 3!!! and of course they sent us home with all of the leftovers!!! it was awesome!!!

  7. Sweet Kymber,

Yep.....your as beautiful as I thought you would be, and your smile is amazing. I love these pictures of you with your brother....and the picture of your brothers with Jam. It's wonderful to have family close to be able to help one another. I know your family truly appreciates all the hard work you and Jam helped with. Flies and nats bite and when you get to many of them you really can get sick. I'm happy to hear you're feeling better. Sending love and hugs your way.
    Your friend,
    Sandy

    1. oh sweet Sandy - you are waaaay tooo kind! my smile is so big because my brother took me to go and get the truck - not anyone else - he wanted me to go with him! and he showed off and played the siren for me and did the speaker thing - it was awesome! and then he showed me all of the different things that the truck could do. we love our family, Sandy, and they love us - it's awesome! oh ya - this is the second time this summer that i have gotten soooo sick - it really sucks. i am still covered in swollen welts but i think i am finally getting better. especially with your love and hugs! and sending them back to you!

  10. Black flies bite you and they can make you sick? Yikes! Hope you are on the mend. I bet a few more of those rainbows and you'll be better than ever, I know I would be!

    1. oh 1st Man - these black flies are vicious this year! they had a late start due to our spring being so wet so they are on a mission. and yes, some people can die from too many bites - other people can be bitten a million times and the venom doesn't bother them. i am somewhere in the middle - after i get enough venom in my system i get sick as oh heck. and a little crazy. it's quite awful actually. but the beautiful sunrises do help...even with the squawking ravens - bahahahah!

    1. oh sweet Jane - you are too kind with your words! i am on the mend but just can't get bit anymore...and i got bit again today when watering the pond and tomatoes - arghghghgh! but i am not as sick as i was so that is a good thing. lots of love to you and yours, always!

    2. Kymber, I also react to bites. I have a big welt on my leg where a horsefly bit me while I was in the tall grass chasing a new horse who pushed his way past me out to a far pasture one hot day. I have been using a lot of natural repellants but with lots and lots of rain the gnats, mosquitoes, flies, biting flies, and horseflies have been much worse than normal. Ticks have been fewer this season but this did not stop J., our youngest from being diagnosed with Lyme Disease this year, which I heard in the last year that Nova Scotia now has too ! Nowhere beautiful is safe !
Hope you are a bit better,

    3. OMG - lyme disease?!?!?! oh i am so glad that he was properly diagnosed!!! it can lead to all kinds of weird health problems if not diagnosed early. and yes, i heard that it was here too!

sweet Jane, i am feeling better but missing my jambaloney something fierce. he's been gone almost an hour.

  12. I have gotten sick from too many plain old mosquito bites! All the talk of black fly bites scares me. It makes me think of horseflies that bite and hurt for so long.

I absolutely love the pink work boots. Stay out of the mud so you don't mess them up.

Gee, must be nice to have "family" to be with and have help. It really irritates me that people who depended on me are now distant. However, I have found that having a guy connected with you helps to get and retain friends. No one sees anyone here who can put up siding...so, well, that's the way it goes.

I think I would have shot holes in the roof trying to kill those birds. Here, people put razor sharp strips of metal, sticking straight up to get rid of the pigeons that like to roost on churches, and at the edges of roofs. Maybe you need some sort of deterrent than stomping and screaming, although I am sure that makes j feel better.

When you get chickens, you will hear the roosters, but the chickens need to be close to the house. You can make a little rooster box that is soundproof for the rooster until you decide it is morning.

It is out of season, but I am going to post the recipe I said I would last fall.

To whom does the fire truck belong? We? the town? We? you and J?

    1. Linda - there are people who have really bad reactions to mosquitoe bites as well and you sound like one of them. i am ok with mosquitoes but the black flies do me right in! we have horse flies too, they leave horrible welts. our deer flies are like smaller horse flies if that makes sense!

oh if my sister C ever thought that i wasn't using my work boots properly, like in the mud - she'd kill me - bahahahah!

and ya - it really is nice after going so many years without anyone, then finally getting jambaloney, and now finally getting family - what a treat! we know that having family that you can depend on is a wonderful thing, and we are very grateful!

those ravens are driving us batty but they do what they do so we just have to live with them! they are better than the black flies tho- bahahahahaha!

which recipe are you posting? no worries i will keep an eye out on your blog.

the truck belongs to the Framboise-Fourchu (our 2 sister communities) volunteer fire department. it is 36yrs old but we bought it for only $10!!! it is still in good working order and will be our main truck until we buy our new one.

  13. Sorry to hear you have been sick with the bug bites. I wonder if putting some honey or Tumeric on the bite might help? Folks in India not only use tumeric in cooking but also for treating cuts and minor abrasions. Plus what a great excuse to make a real Indian curry!
I looked up the shipping for the beer to Canada and "Good Lord and butter" it cost much more than I expected. I guess I'll just have to send you the recipe when you guys are ready to make all-grain beer.
For your bird problem I wonder if you could break up some glass and basically put down a thin layer of morter/cement and then stick the broken bits of glass before it dries. The US Army does that to the top of Stone walls and roofs to discourage folks climbing and as a security feature. Using different colored glass you can make a pretty mosaic that catches the light and has a nice look.

    1. myadventures - yes - turmeric and honey helps! i try to put turmeric and honey in as many meals i can! and i love making deeelishious indain curries!

i knew that the shipping was gonna cost "Good Lord and butter"! so we will just have to get your fabulous recipe!

the ravens are driving us nuts but also getting us up at the crack of dawn, which means we go to bed pretty early...so that is probably a good thing since we are really trying to get back to a truly natural way of living. but thanks for all of the tips!
