Happy Canada Day!

i love my country! i love my country in a way that i hope that everyone loves their country....i think that patriotism is a very important quality! might be why i served 10yrs in the Canadian Forces, ya think?

anyway, a hat-tip to my dear friend Jane who shared this song and video on her blog a while back. it sums up Canada and Canadians very well. This song and video were produced by Julia Bentley & Andrew Gunadie, and they honestly couldn't possibly be more goofy...or be more Canadian! please watch the video and enjoy...if for no other reason than to bring me a little joy!

i love my country. Happy Canada Day to all....oh and to satisfy the "purists" - Happy Dominion Day!

here's the video...it really is a hoot!

and here are the lyrics:

Canadian, please

Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please
Even if in winter things tend to freeze
We’ve got the world monopoly on trees
And our country’s bordered by three different seas

Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please
We invented the zipper, we’ve got expertise
We made insulin to combat disease
Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please

CHORUS
Brits have got the monarchy
The US has the money
But I know that you wanna be Canadian
The French have got the wine and cheese
Koalas chill with the Aussies
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

Et si ce n’était pas assez
On a deux langues officielles:
L’anglais et le français
Ooh la la

Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please
Where else do you find mounted police
Or go to the hospital and not pay fees
Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please

And when freshwater is in high demand
We’ve got the world’s largest supply on hand
So you know that we could make a pretty good friend
But it’s even better if you can be…

CHORUS

So you’re thinking to yourself,
“How do I live in this beautiful country?”
Well we’ve got some steps for you to follow…
STEP 1: Lose the gun
STEP 2: Buy a canoe
STEP 3: Live multiculturally
STEP 4: You’re ready, there is no more!

We got beavers, cariboo and moose
We got buffalos, bears, and Canadian goose
And we’re sorry about Celine Dion
But she did do that good song for James Cameron…

Brits have got the monarchy
The US has the money
But I know that you wanna be Canadian
The French have got the wine and cheese
Koalas chill with the Aussies
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

The Greeks chilled out with Socrates
Can’t build a wall like the Chinese
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

In Kenya they have safaris
We’ve missed lots of other countries
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

(end of lyrics)

one last time - i love my country. and i love being Canadian!

  3. You aren't my only Canadian friend. Hey do you know lady gothic? Lol sorry. Been up for 24 hurs now. I was doing one of those, you people all know each other things. But as I am explaining it, it completely loses all humorosity it might have.

    Hmmm....coffee, now?

    1. bahahahahahah! somehow i missed this earlier....bahahahahha! honest to goodness when i was down in the states, people would ask where i was from or what province i lived in, etc. at the time i lived in ontario, which is bigger than texas, and people would say "oh do you know joe? he's from ontario too" - bahahahahahah! no last name, no nothing - just joe. sometimes i pretended to know him. bahahahahahahah! i totally get what you are saying. gosh i hope you are sleeping right now. and i want you to know how proud i am that you raised so much money with your blogathon! oh and thanks for the prize i won - can't wait to receive it - bahahahahahah!

  4. Happy Canada Day. Thanks for the mention as I really do love the song, and have an internet friendship with Julia. (Andrew is pretty busy and doesn't respond unless you go to a convention he is in.) If others wish to see more of their work, and their work individually, you can go to You Tube, and look for Julia as "Honeychip" and Andrew as "Gunnarola". Both of them have music degrees (of course from Canadian universities, in Ontario)
I LOVE Canada also. It is my second home. I even sing the Canadian National Anthem occasionally because I simply love the song, and I get teary.
Happy Canada Day to all who love her. She is a vast and beautiful country which took much of the best of England, the best of the United States and then incorporated and respected her own native peoples (In Canada, they are "First Nation" peoples) also. It is the land of sanity, plentiful water, respect for the rule of law, kindness, and space, all while being multicultural without just paying lip service to being.
Happy Canada Day sister nation Canada !

    Love,

  5. ack. ack. ack. you had to get me tearing up, eh Jane? it is so evident that you love Canada...and being that i am very patriotic to my country and very respectful to that other county that i respect and admire - that being the United States of America - you come across as a very patriotic North American and i love that about you! teehee...i have to admit that i sing the American anthem also...i think i served with too many patriotic Americans that i admired and respected and i thought that the least that i could do for them was learn to sing their anthem properly! thank you from the bottom of every Canadian's heart for learning our anthem and considering this beautiful country your second home! YOU, Jane are the true example of a beautiful American! and thankfully - there are many millions of them out there who are just like you! i guess that's why our two countries love each other!

we, Canadians, love our American brothers and sisters. but we love Americans like you the most!

thank you honey. your comment is so well-appreciated. your friend,

  8. Happy Canadian Day,

And great video! Large numbers of my ancestors were Canadian, even before the Revolution down below. Even more afterwards. Many of the rest of us would move up there if we could.

All the best to you and jambaloney, and I hope it is the best Canadian Day ever!

  14. Hey sis - Really Big Hug to you and J ! Happy Canada Day ! I have to say, I love this day - it reminds me of all the wonderful reasons I became a Canadian citizen, and how much I love and respect this great land of ours !

From the west coast to the east coast - from the east coast back to the west cost - WE LOVE CANADA - our home !

We're going to the park later - there are festivities going on all day - music at the bandstand, arts and crafts , multicultural food galore, many different ethnic groups performing song and dance, storytellers and on and on....

At dusk or shortly thereafter - a huge display of fireworks always lights up the sky which can be seen from all over the city. This marks the end of another Birthday ....

    Happy 145th Birthday Canada!!!!!!!!

I love you so my sweet darlin and enjoy your day !

Album started - will be nice .... xoxoxoxooxoxoxoxox

  16. I'm not patriotic as you've probably guessed. Well having a home in the UK and the US kinda means I'm a "wherever I lay my hat that's my home" type of guy. But I do love this world we live in, all of us, and I'm delighted to be part of that, which makes me part of Canada too right?

    Happy Canada to you. :)

    1. Sue, hon - we had an awesome Canada Day! jambaloney worked on the trench, i tended the garden and we re-filled the pool. we were going to head down to the river but we knew it was freezing so we got in the pool instead. and by getting in, i mean we stood in it to cool off - that water was freezing too - bahahahah! we probably won't be swimming until mid-July-ish. and no - no fireworks but that's ok - i think i saw enough of them in Ottawa to last a lifetime - bahahah! did you and Renoman go to any parties or see fireworks?

ya - that song rocks eh? Happy Canada Day to both of you!
