the hummingbirds are back!!!

sorry for the bad picture quality but i took this pic through a dirty window. the hummingbirds are back - woohoo! jambaloney said that he saw one this morning so we quickly made some hummingbird water and filled our feeders. they come back every year and stay until the end of july. just another creature of the Manor to thrill and enthrall. i am so happy that they are back!

and below - frog babies! these 3 clusters of eggs have been in our pond for about a week now. i check on them hourly. i am not sure if they are frogs, spring peepers, salamanders, whatever - it doesn't matter to me. i talk to them every day and encourage them to grow!

here's another pic of our pond. not so much a pond as a hole in the ground that keeps ground water. no matter, i love it.  and our beautiful bench.

this is my favourite tree. i call him "the bonsai" because of his shape. you can see that his original top was blasted off by lightning many, many years ago. he's making the best of it though. i love this tree.

here's some beautiful, tiny blue flowers that grow in amongst the grass. so pretty!

and some lunch. yummy 3-bean salad with peppers and chives - yummeh!

the days keep getting warmer and longer. i planted out some brussel sprouts, broccoli and cabbage today. soon we'll be eating like kings!

jambaloney just got home from fishing - he's caught 7 more trout - woohoo! we'll be having the breakfast of champions for the next several days - trouts and sprouts - our fave. gotta run!

Obviously it is an attempt to disguise a coded message within some Joycean-like stream of conciousness.

However, I being skilled in such matters, notice that if you take the second letter of each word, it spells out the Urdu word for unveiling (a.k.a. apocalypse). Obviously a signal that the apocalypse is about to begin!

Canadian codes are so easy to crack.

    2. I forgot the source.

The "unveiling" in this case no doubt means that you are simply planning to do some weeding in the garden in the "customary" fashion.

  7. Spring is definitely in the air! Love it. You and I share such a similar love for all the neat things on our properties. Every time I go out to ours, I'm wandering around looking at stuff. I was mowing one weekend, and stopped to stare at a spider making a web for probably 30 minutes or more, then mowed around it sow as not to mess up all it's hard work.

It's amazing how when you get away from the frantic pace of city life and into the country, and you stop to notice what's REALLY around you, you find that we are but mere giants in a world that is teeming with life.

Wow, didn't mean to get so philosophical, your post has me in that daydreaming mood. I can't wait to get out there again this weekend, ha.

    Enjoy it sweet lady!!

    1. 1st Man - we are so definitely alike! i love that you mowed around the web - me and jambaloney do crazy stuff like that too. but we are just giants and if you bother to look - the world around us is teeming with life. i am so happy that you have a place to go to get away from the craziness of the city - it is so important to be able to reconnect with nature! don't worry about getting philosophical - i enjoy it as again, we are the same that way. i can't wait for your post about your upcoming weekend. get out there and enjoy it, my friend!

  8. My dear lady, only you would talk to frog eggs...then again why not, it's what I love about you. You know, don't you, those eggs are quite tasty. Little salt and pepper. They pop in your mouth...

Nice work..hummingbird season is the best!

    1. Jane - i must have 7,000 blurry, bad pics of hummingbirds! i can never get a proper pic of them! for us, the hummingbirds show up just after black fly season begins - oh i hate those things! my right elbow is swollen to twice it's size from getting bit yesterday.....arghghghgh! i hate bug nets and i hate using deet and stuff but it looks like i'll have to cave and wear my bug nets. what kind of insects do you get that you don't like? xoxo

  12. I must be the only person on earth who failed to attract hummingbirds and got hundreds of huge, black ants every day no matter what I did. I just gave up with the hummingbird feeder.

  14. I love it when Spring/Summer hits and nature comes alive after a long and sleepy winter... dont listen to stephen about talking to things..I do it all the time..especially my African Cichlid fish..they relate to me and come up to the top of the tank and blow mommy kisses.. : )

  15. JUGM - you and me both! i never celebrate the "New Year" on Jan 1 - that is not the New Year to me. that is the middle of the Old Year. to me - the New Year begins when the snow has been gone for at least 2 weeks and the trees start to show buds. then i celebrate the New Year daily for about a month....some New Years come quicker than others but this New Year started roughly around the middle of March and now that it is the middle of May, the New Year is over. it is wonderful to see nature come alive and celebrate for a month.

teehee. i am glad that you talk to your fish. and yes, they are definitely blowing Mommy some kisses!

thanks for your sweet comment! xox
