some of the reasons why i like blogging

there are a lot of reasons why i like blogging. i really like meeting new people from all over the place - if you notice our visitors list on the right-hand side of this page, you will see that we get them from all over. i like that. it makes me happy.

i also really like learning new things from reading others' blogs, and of course - i love it when people leave comments! i love that there is quite a rag-tag group of us that have formed here and on others' blogs and we have all become friends and support each other. there are also a lot of regular people here, and on others' blogs, that don't have blogs themselves but always leave supportive comments and are part of the group. it's a nice feeling to have what feels like extended family out there on the interwebs.

our friend Stephen encouraged us to start a blog. he has recently suffered some illnesses and spent several weeks in the hospital. our group of friends were very concerned - but our dear friend Duke kept us all informed on how Stephen was doing. and then Stephen was able to update us through his blog - even when in the hospital!!! there's a reason for liking blogging right there! Stephen was back in the hospital the other night and of course our dear friend Duke kept us all informed - he's very reliable that Duke! and a great friend! another reason to like blogging. Stephen is doing much better now - i know this because of his recent post on his blog - from the hospital, no less.

several friends in the blogging world have suffered illnesses, surgeries and sicknesses since we first started blogging. everyone has been encouraging, sending uplifting messages and praying - it is an awesome feeling to know that you are praying with a group of other people who are praying with you. it is an even more awesome feeling to know that people are sending you healing vibes and praying for you - i know how this feels firsthand as many of you are the reason why i was able to make it through the first few days of jambaloney being hurt last october - your support and prayers meant the world to me! another reason to like blogging!

then there are those of you out there that i now communicate through email with. how wonderful! and i would have never met you if not for blogging! add to that the number of people who have shared their physical addresses with us, and we have shared ours - for in the event of SHTF! imagine, total strangers offering us safe haven! and we have shared our physical address and will with anyone who wants it! another reason i like blogging!

and then i meet a new friend. who starts a blog. and is interested in sharing seeds. Beth jumped on the opportunity to send me bergamot seeds when she learned that i was searching high and low for some. not only bergamot, she sent me brown mustard, navajo tea, clove basil, and hopi blue corn! see pic below:

it is so nice to receive a gift from someone you have never met in person! it is wonderful to receive a package full of treasures! Beth asked me to send her hopi red dye amaranth, stevia, window box roma tomatoes, jade cross brussel sprouts and light red kidney beans in return. Beth, the seeds are all packaged up and jambaloney will take them to the post office on thursday. i can't wait until you get them as i threw in 5 other kinds of seed that i hope that you will enjoy! i can't wait until you get them.

all of this to say that i really like blogging. it has opened up a whole new world for me and jambaloney. we are making some really great friends - just check our blog list - everyone listed there is someone worth getting to know!

if anyone is interested in exchanging seeds - let me know. check out our inventory of herb seed here and veg seed here. i have a lot of seed to share, but in some instances i only have a few of a particular seed and plan on saving all seed from this year's harvest. but if i have seed to spare, i will gladly send some to you...like Beth did. and i will gladly share on a regular basis if anyone is interested.

we also made up a little package for Stephen, his Sweet Wife and Little Bit today. and finally got around to mailing a card to Mystic Mud as she sent us a sweet one. as well as getting Beth's package of seeds ready. we both really enjoyed doing that! if you would like to send letters or cards to us - we would be glad to do the same with any of you. it felt nice to make packages to send to our friends. you can contact me at "kymberzmail@gmail.com".

Helga - you are sooo right about enjoying making up and sending packages! i am sending you our mailing address as soon as i post this! and i'll need yours in order to make up a little package for you!

all in all, i really like blogging. for a variety of reasons. these are just a few!

  1. I enjoy blogging too, although I am not thrilled with the changes made to blogger. They are here for everyone in April, but I agreed to switch over. I found the other set up easier to use. Today is the first day both blogs have been on the new program, so please forgive me if I can't post as readily or figure out where something is !

    1. Jane - i nearly flipped out the other day when our whole blog template had changed!!! and then it took hours to get it back!!! i don't understand why blogger/google feels the need to do this - and when checking out my daily read, a bunch of other blogs had changed too! yes, this is a free service but if they want people to keep using it - then they have to stop changing things without us being able to keep it the way we want! ok, getting off the soap box now!

i am glad that you enjoy blogging too. if it weren't for blogging - i never would have met you. and you have actually changed our lives forever. thank you blogger! xoxoxox

  3. I, too, have gotten phone numbers and physical address from email friends before I had a blog because it occurred to me that the internet was our only means of communicating.

    Jane, WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT??? !!!!!!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I have not heard of anything changing!

oh and Jane is right - things are changing. i spent the better part of 3 hours putting our blog back together the other day. i was ready to scream! xoxoxo

    2. So, the new format is not usable? I think I am going to have to get a fresh supply of chocolate and cancel all appointments to attend to this..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    3. I think I will be able to use the new blog format, but not with the speed and facility I did with the other format. Since I have two different blogs with 2 of my different personas, this will take time, so it will slow my posts for awhile. Also, I use a Linux operating system for some things, and a Windows for others. I would imagine that Linux, though very virus resistant, may not work as well with the new format.
Why when something works, do people feel compelled to change it ? I loved Blogger just the way it was.

  5. Kymber - If you want some of the Musquee de Provence pumpkin seeds, let me know. I have way more seeds than I have dirt in which to plant them. The ones planted in the mini-greenhouse are sprouting out of the ground faster than I imagined possible.

Suppose I should check and see if mailing seeds to Canada is legal.

So far I haven't had too much trouble with blogger's new changes, (except for having to turn off the word verification setting), but I purposely avoided customizing the blogger template when I started my blog. The only thing I noticed is that after a while blogger reduces the size of the pictures in the sidebar, probably in an attempt to reduce storage requirements on their servers.

I also, am just amazed at how people are in our little blog world. Just from the written word, friendships are made. And also from the written word, how we all can care about one another. And how we can share, thoughts, dreams, or to rant every now and then.

Yep, in my book,(by DR. Seuss) All of you out there are a great bunch of people. And, I have your back. Any time.

  8. You are too sweet to mention me Kymber...sorry I have been under the weather last few days. This weekend's work did something to my neck. Have been living with a heat pack on it for the last two days. Finally got the gumtion to vaccum up the dog hair explosion in the living room and office tonight.

I never mine sending seeds if I have them. This fall should be a great exchanging time as I have made screens and I'm kicking into high gear with saving them. If anyone else wants to exchange, just hop over to my blog and leave me a note. Will be posting veggie list on there within the next few days (I've GOT to get the spring veggies in!!) but the herb list is on there now. Kymber got the last of the bergamont =P though.

Looking forward to your package (PRESSIES in the mail, I love them!!) and hope that we can do this again Kymber.
    Yours,

yes - lets keep exchanging seeds. i will have a ton after harvest as i plan to plant a few seeds of everything just to let go to seed. we'll compare notes after harvest!

i soooo hope that you enjoy the PRESSIES! take care of that back, dear one! xoxoxox

I have almost nothing in common with most of the bloggers in your list. Never the less I just can't tell you how much I have enjoyed following your links and reading what your friends have to say. As a "lurker" I must admit that sometimes I do feel a little bit like a stalker or peeping Tom.

    1. OT, but I just came in from planting garlic and onions, and I couldn't help but to think of you as two naked four year olds helped me, though, I am sure that you would have shown far more respect than those two in regards to planting instructions!!...lol! We will see how their planted method works out, maybe the naked part will bring good luck to our crops?

A card is more than enough, you're silly, unless of course you were thinking of sending me your hot tub, and in that case go right on ahead....lol:)

  18. Kymber,

I am one of those outsiders looking in (no Blog). Really enjoy reading all these "connected" links to other blogs. That's how I get "around". I just started working with heirloom seeds this year and and hopefull that I will have lots to share next year.

I had some seeds from a 'mystery' heirloom tomato that I had purchased, planted & saved from 2 years ago (dried & put in a plastic bag). Decided to plant those this year, along with all those that I purchased this year. The Mystery Tomatoes are doing the best of all that I started, biggest stalks, less susectible (sp?) to draught (sp?), etc. If they produce will definitely share. Hope my 'collection' grows.

Will continue to 'listen' to you (& Jambaloney) through MDR & Stephen, if that's all right?

    1. spinnersaw - here is the wikipedia entry for bergamot:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarda_didyma

bergamot is a beautiful herb with many medicinal qualities. i had been searching for "bergamot" to add to my herb collection - it was Beth who told me it is also known as bee balm - silly me!

here is the wikipedia entry on bee balm:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee_balm

      hope this helps!

    2. Yes, thankyou. Bee balm is beautiful. The back of my box of Earl Grey Tea says that it is a citrus fruit. I love Earl Grey Tea, blame it on Captain Picard.

    3. spinnersaw - orange bergamot is completely different from bee balm/regular bergamot.

here is a wikipedia link for you:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergamot_orange

the orange bergamot that they use in Earl Grey Tea is what gives the Earl Grey it's distinctive flavour - i looked that up too - hahaha!
