some interesting links

i received an email from a friend who was interested in the free, online canning course that ScifiChick and i took together a few years ago. both SciFiChick and i found the course very easy and informative and although she is a canning and dehydrating fool, i haven't really done much canning since getting to the Manor. i am hoping that will change during this year's harvest - fingers crossed!

so here is the link to the National Centre for Home Preservation. scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says: Preserving Food At Home: A Self Study and click the registration button. once you fill out the registration form, you will receive an email with a login and can begin your course.

the other great link that i would like to share is Instructables.com. this link takes you to a page where you can learn how to make a greenhouse out of windows. if you look on the right-hand side of the page you will see other related instructables. there are tons of instructables on the site related to pretty much anything. play around with the topics or search for something specific.

i hope that some of you will enjoy one, or both, of these links!

anyway, it's laundry day here at the Manor. and yes, i really love my new washing machine!

  2. I have always found it very satisfying to preserve my own food even if it isn't cost efficient. Just the knowledge of having raised your own food from seed to consumption is invaluable.

    2. Where's the thumbs up button? lol Ed, you've touched on one of my favourite topics. I believe that raising our own food is one of the few ways we can secure a healthy diet for ourselves and our family...and there is more than just the feeling of satisfaction, though that is important too, your body is a lot happier when it has real food to work with!

    1. Joey - back in the city jambaloney had garbage-picked about 40 windows!!! he also found 4 windows that were about 5ft x 8ft!!! we had plans on building a greenhouse with them but then up and sold our house much faster than we thought we would. the young couple that bought our house asked if we would leave the windows for them as they intended to build a greenhouse with them. jambaloney now has collected about 20 windows, but big garbage pick-up day is coming soon and we are sure he will be able to get more. we plan on enclosing the porch in the winter with the windows!
