i hate to brag but...

my washer and freezer arrived yesterday! woohoo! no more washing clothes in the bathtub! sorry for the blurry pic below.

but here is a close-up. hard to believe i left a huge and beautiful front-loading washer and dryer back in the city eh? oh well, this baby will do just fine!

we will only use it during the winter months as we really do enjoy doing laundry out in the backyard in bins. if you missed our previous laundry post, you can find it here.

oh and here is a shot of the inside of the washer...i am gonna put that baby to some serious use tomorrow - woohoo!

and now for the piece de resistance: my new freezer!

we have saved for over a year for these two appliances - having to save helps when it comes to prioritizing. have a look inside. four moving baskets - can you believe it?

we are hoping to use the freezer for storing locally-sourced meat and produce, as well as some of our own home-grown produce. home-grown produce is a bit premature right now - we haven't even started any seeds yet. but we will soon. and we will need somewhere to store that produce. until we have our own, we will fill that freezer with locally-sourced delicious cape breton meat, fish and produce. i am over the moon right now.

jambaloney has a post coming up about having to make room in the basement for both of these appliances. and propping up our sagging floors. and insulation. and a whole pile of other crap that he tends to around here. poor guy.

but for now - rejoice with me that i have a washer and a freezer - the two most important things on any girls wish list!

  1. Kymber, You should "brag away", for you are not rejoicing in these items for the sake of having items, but because they will enable you to do your job better. Who cannot rejoice in an easier path that will leave you more time to explore your lovely home and area ? The joy is in the beautiful journey together, and our joy is in your blogging about it !

    1. aww shucks Jane! thank you sooo much. i sorta felt bad after i put this post up...i wasn't trying to brag...just wanted everyone to know how happy i was. i was worried about people reading this post who don't have any running water, like Mystic Mud for example. i didn't want to sound like a braggart. but i am so happy to have saved for these appliances. and they really will make our lives easier. thank you for always getting to the heart of the matter. thank you for always understanding what i really mean.

  2. Congratulations on your new appliances! Do you have a generator to keep the freezer going during a power outage?

    1. Monsieur Smythe - yer darn tootin's we got a big old generator set up. one of the first things jambaloney got. and then built a shed for it. he also got an extension cord-thingy - it's special and for our generator. i'll send him back to explain - i have no idea what i am talking about! thank you, Sir, for always providing wise comments and asking the pertinent questions. we appreciate that!

  3. Welcome to the 21st century!!!! I love the new washer. knock on wood(seniors head) mine is over 14 yrs old and still going strong. We have an upright freezer, but lately Senior is talking about getting another one, especially if we get a cow processed.

Bragging is good... I do it all the time. BTW did you ever make the pita bread? and how did it turn out?

JUGM - email about potatoes coming in a day or two...forgive me - i can barely type and can't read at all due to the migraine! i am so glad that your washer is still going strong (knock on Senior's head...oh and don't let him read this - bahahhah!). we are thinking of getting a cow and a pig processed this year so we definitely need that freezer. glad to hear that you are going to get a cow too.

pita bread was awesome as was the hummus. recipe coming shortly. thanks my friend!

  5. What a coincidence the Mrs. and I just purchased a new chest freezer as well. The old stand up one I have out in the shop turns into a solid block of ice before I even realize it so it is now retired and only going to be used for freezing old comb after honey harvesting.

Great purchases for your small-hold Kym and Jam...Gratz!!!

    1. PioneerP - thank you sooo much! we need the washer during the winter and we need the freezer period. we saved and then got good deals on the after-Christmas sales and bought both appliances from the same place - which added to our savings.

      yum....fresh honey!

    1. Helga, dear friend, we are on a fixed income so we must put aside a little money every month for any home improvements or purchases. it is so nice when the savings add up to be able to get a new "priority". these were priorities for a while. thank you honey!

you have a great sunday, too, dear friend!

i still enjoy hanging them on the line, tho, buddy. nothing beats line-dried clothes!

  15. Congratulations on the new appliances. I would not have a front-loader washer, so your washing machine is impressive. You have been brave to do without one for a year. That freezer is wonderful. Baskets and four of them! Wow! What brand is that? My friend just bought a chest freezer that does not have those baskets. In the meantime before you get it filled, keep jugs of potable water in there to help with the efficiency. Having frozen water or hunks of meat keeps the freezer from running too much. Besides, the water might come in handy.

I don't know how I missed this post for two days. I think blogger did not inform me of the update. ???
