it's almost april - GO AWAY SNOW!!!!

it's another beautiful, sunny, clear and crisp day outside. hopefully soon we'll see the ground!

it's been a busy week/weekend - jam's been working several hours a day from home. he went onsite on friday and he's back there today. i've been feeding him oriental inspired food for suppers - here's a few:

that's a korean dish called japchae. the noodles are called invisible noodles. they are made from sweet potatoe starch but all i could find around here were sweet potaoe starch vermicelli noodles. still delicious. there's carrot, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and spinach all cooked in a ginger, garlic, rice wine vinegar, soya-sauce. the egg garnish is called jidan and it is made with two eggs, yolks separated from the whites. then a bit of salt and pepper added to the whisked eggs. and some pickled ginger on the side. this dish can be eaten hot or cold...but we prefer it cold.

next up is some stirfry. i just use whatever vegetables are on hand and make a stronger soya sauce-based ginger/garlic/rice wine vinegar sauce to cook the sauteed veg in.

saturday was our matriarch's 85th birthday party. we went down on friday evening to help our brother G and sister C set up and decorate. sister C was worried that there wouldn't be enough food??? let me just say that that would be impossible - she has been baking and making sandwiches for the past month. we had fun setting up and decorating and then went upstairs to make the last of the sandwiches. we made an assembly line at the table - jam had the bread and would put a scoop of tuna or salmon salad on the bread, pass it to brother G and me - we were the spreaders- and then we would pass it to sister C who sliced the sandwiches into little triangles. we whipped off 3 loaves of bread in about 15 mins. it was fun and silly. we enjoyed ourselves!

then on saturday when we had the party the tables were overloaded with food. we had a nice group of people show up and they really enjoyed themselves. they all said that all of the food and sweets were delicious! our matriarch had a good time and sister C gave me and jam a special friendship card and thanked us for our help. it is nice to feel appreciated and even nicer to get to spend time with our dear brother and sister. brother G gave me a very special gift that i will treasure.

jam is back at work today and may have to go in a few days this week. crab fishing season starts on april 1st but i am not sure if the boats will be able to get out because of the ice-flows in the harbour. i hope the boats and fishermen will be able to get out soon.

our besties in fourchu, C&B, invited us to Easter supper this Friday afternoon. their kids (who are adults but i still call them kids!), who we love, S&D, will be there along with D's girlfriend. i am sure many other people will drop in and out. it will be nice to go and have supper with them and then head down to chase the ace after supper.

i have been sorting seeds and planning the garden but we are definitely off to a late start this year. i get the feeling that when spring really hits we are going to go from winter to spring in less than an hour. come on spring!

i hope you all have a great week!

  3. "Poor ram" on pioneer preppy's blog! That Black comment didn't offend you? Shame on you!! Your response or lack thereof shall be posted on every site I can forward it to!! How smug do you feel now? It's pathetic that you feel more pain for a ram than a human being's feelings!

    1. Emerald - i have no idea who you are but i don't like people picking on my friends! PP stated very clearly that he was not trying to be racist in his post and he wasn't! and yes - i felt very badly for the poor ram! if you don't like that well then i guess you can just stay away from our Manor. our visitors are lovely people and i don't want any more of your vitriol around here. please - go find someone else to bug.

    2. You should NEVER judge a person by their skin color...that's appalling! How would you like to be judged for being a woman? Maybe someone thinks you can't do something right just because your a lady..that's not right. Honestly I can't see how you can defend his statement.

    3. btw..sometimes I reply or comment as anonymous..you don't know all the times I have commented that way.

    4. Maybe she is the Kimber troll?

This is some fun stuff here. I tell ya what Emerald. You come to my neck of the woods and find me a Black clerk at a hardware store that knows the difference between a category 1 lift pin and a category 2. Then maybe I will take your feigned outrage seriously.

  4. I cannot wait for nice weather, this is getting silly how long winter is hanging on! I have tomatoes and basil coming up in the house, waiting for my peppers to spring up. I still have to plant my melon seeds, I know spring will come soon!
Emerald, the first amendment protects all speech, whether one approves or not is irrelevant to the fact PP has the right to say what he wants.
I have not read what you are speaking of, but please do jot judge kymber based on what she didn't say!

    1. LTW - you and me both! i am glad that your seedlings are coming up - good for you! i can't even start any yet because i have such a small place for starting seeds in the house that i have to be sure that i can move the first round of seeds out of the house to the greenhouse (without any freezing nights) before i can start the next round. does that make sense? if it doesn't - just yell and i'll explain better.

thank you very much for having my back and sticking up for me - it means the world. Pioneer Preppy wrote a post that was not racist in intent at all. and this Emerald person is off the deep end. much love to you and yours, as always! xox

  5. Hey, Ice Maiden.

Sounds like winter is getting longer up there in the Far North. Hasn't slowed you down any though, you are still the social butterfly. Still making those great meals for J, too.

  11. Sweet Kymber,

I'm going to have to threaten those clouds above to move away and let the sun come out and thaw out that ice. Girl, I can't believe were already coming into April and you still have all kinds of snow. Granted it's pretty....but now it needs to go away, lol.....

Oh look at that delicious food, good thing I didn't let Bulldog Man read your blog post. He's having a routine test tomorrow and couldn't eat any solid food today, he had to stick to clear liquids.

Emerald (aka: Anonymous) What on earth ever happened to freedom of speech and expression on your own blog? If you don't like what a person writes on their own blog, then leave!

Sending hugs and love to you and Jam.

make sure to feed Bulldog Man his favourite food when he gets done with all the testing - he's gonna be hungry!!!

as for Emerald/Anon - ack. whatever eh?

always sending much love to you and all of yours! big hugs from both of us! (tell BD Man i hope he feels better when he gets something to eat.) xoxox

  12. Must be that global warming they used to talk about! I say get ready for the next mini ice age (that theory was all the rage back in the 70's when i was a lad)!
Been a long hot and reasonably wet summer down here in OZ, which means we will get a cold dry winter (well, cold for us any way, I would never survive snow deeper than about on inch).

    1. teehee - your dating yourself Sgt - i wasn't born 'til the 80's! (bahahahahahaha! that's a big fat lie! bahahahah!) - but i sure don't hope that you are right! do you ever get snow where you are in OZ? i know some places in OZ get some snow but not sure about your exact location. and i haven't received any awesome pics from you lately. just sayin'! much love!

    2. G'day Kymber,

I live on the southern edge of Sydney and we never get any snow, you have to travel to the Blue mountains (part of the Great Dividing Range) which are 113 kms west of us. Even then compared to the "Day after Tomorrow" snow you seem to get at your place you would probably consider our snow a heavy frost! I will dig out some of my ancient photos of my one and only camping trip in the "snow"
