the majestic morrison's beach!

my poor jambaloney got a bit of a septic surprise the other day but being that he is so resourceful, he managed to fix the problem, dug another 75ft trench and is filling some of it in with rocks and sand from the beach. what could have been a very costly thing to fix was free! that guy works so hard! anyway, he went down to the majestic morrison's beach the other day and brought me back another plate full of mussels - yummeh!

here are some pics of the beach:

it's quite something eh?

the cape breton sky is 97 different shades of blue and grey and you can see all of the different shades when down at the beach!

of course the water is freezing at this time of year!

but it's just so pretty to be able to look out on the majesty with the wind whipping through your hair and not another soul to be seen.

it sure reminds you how truly tiny you are in the grand scheme of things!  i love that beach - it is so clean and refreshing!

jam will have a post up in a few detailing the septic surprise and what he did to correct it. of course, our buddy W was a big help providing guidance and advice. that W has really been there for us almost from the minute we put this blog up. he's a treasure, he is. thanks W!!!

i hope that you all are enjoying your week!

    1. oh Dani - you are one of those crazy people like jambaloney who puts sauces and crap on your seafood and fish - BA-LECK! i eat all of my fish fried in butter or in batter and i eat all of my seafood plain, just like a proper cape bretoner does - bahahahahahah! oh and when it comes to septic there will be absolutely no pink gumboots in the poop - bahahahahahah! that was a good one Dani! much love hon! xox

    2. Ah, kymber - not even a squeeze of lemon?? Freshly cooked fish and freshly squeezed lemon juice go together like bread and butter, salt and pepper, horse and carriage - and kymber and jambaloney ;)

  3. Wow Kymber that certainly is a beautiful beach. I love the lines of the backwash they mimic the vertical lines in the cliff behind it looks so peaceful.

How lovely to have fresh mussels. Did you have any sauce with them?

    1. Sol - i never figured you to be like Dani above and my jambaloney and all of the rest of the crazy people who make sauces to go with shellfish....it's just darn crazy - bahahahah! no i did not have any sauce with my beautiful, fresh mussels, fresh out of the ocean and cooked in ocean water - to do so would be blasphemy!!!! i eat them plain, people! they don't need any sauce when they are that fresh!

ok, stepping off my soapbox now! bahahahah!

and yes, Sol, that beach is truly beautiful. wish you could come up and see it for yourself - you'd really appreciate it's beauty! i can tell!

  4. At least the septic disruption didn't occur when you had snow on the ground (that's usually when stuff like that happens).

And lovely pictures of the coast. They look like they could be on postcards. Thank you for sharing them.

    1. hobo - we thank the Lord for small miracles all the time! poor jam has been worried about that septic since we got here. but now he has addressed it in a manner that we don't have to worry about it anymore! i love those pics of the ocean and i am glad that you like them, too. still have you down for a couple of bags of basil seeds and will send them after christmas. much love! xox

  5. Good thing the ground wasn't frozen and you live far enough out that you can do your own septic work. Even in my county here they have made it basically illegal to work on your own septic system without prior approval and permits with inspections. People still do but the county assessors come out each Spring trying to catch you. So far we have managed to keep the other building codes and the like away but they managed to sneak the septic one through.

    1. PP - we have all of the documentation from when we bought this place and it was "surveyed" and found to be to "code" - ugh. ya. right. this place is a nightmare and the septic is something that jam has been worried about forever. i am glad that we got the surprise because now he knows that he has done everything possible to fix the situation and whatever comes in the future...well, it will be coming in the future. sorry to hear that you deal with these kind of code things too. much love buddy! xo

  6. There's big problems with my septic system here at the moment but it will have to wait until spring until it's fixed now as its too wet. Its good to do it yourself though. That beach looks lovely. Is it a lake or the sea? I've no idea where you are!

    1. Kev - jam got advice from our friend W who knows everything about everything. if you have any questions about septic just fire me an email at kymberzmail@gmail.com. i will then get info from jam and W for you - they can both be a good help for when you are doing your septic!

that is the beautiful north atlantic ocean. we are on a small island called cape breton island which is just north of the province of nova scotia in canada (nova scotia means "new scotland" in latin. when the scots landed here during the potatoe famine they cried and couldn't believe how much our island reminded them of scotland, their home. we live in framboise, french for "raspberry", but our area was settled by the scots. we have a cairn in the middle of our village erected by the scots settlers who chose to keep the french name of framboise. not sure if you care about any of that but i love to tell the history of my island. teehee.)

  7. All that beach, and it's available to anyone to walk on. Our problem here is too many people. The beaches on the east coast are overrun with houses and condos. They have some nice one's with just forest behind them out west, though.

Strange, we had septic system problems here too and it was a real pain to get it fixed. I guess that's one of the downsides of living way out in the sticks.

    1. Harry - that beach is available to everyone and yet we hardly ever see anyone there...it's a big secret! but no matter where you are on the island it's only a hop, skip and a jump to the ocean so people tend to go to the beaches near their homes. and with their only being 40 people in our village, it's pretty rare to see anyone at the beach. plus, these people seem to prefer lakes and rivers to the ocean. i know, crazy eh?

Harry, out here people "just wing it". so that's what we did. and being that only our toilet empties into the septic ( our greywater has another separate run-off), it's not a hard fix. so jam, with the help of our friend W, was able to fix it himself. it was a lot of hard work on his part but we are pretty comfortable and confident in the fix. much love to you and yours, always, my friend.xoxox

  8. sounds like insufficient leach line to handle the liquid. 75 more ft ought to do it. Let's hope so......nothing stops you guys for very long!!!! good job.

    1. Mr. Rat - nothing about this whole property was done "to code" even though we have a survey from when we bought it that passed all inspections. jam is doing the best he can do with what we have and we are pretty confident that being where we are, and the fact that only the toilet empties into the septic, we'll be ok for a while with this fix. and i gotta hand it to ya buddy, nothing seems to stop you either!

  10. Oh, Kymber! I can see why you love that beach. It's gorgeous! Love the way it curves. Fresh salt water air is always good for what ails ya. Renoman and I have a favourite beach too. It is so healing just to walk it and breathe deeply. It doesn't hurt that Jam found some fresh seafood while he was there. ;-)

Hope your holiday preparations are moving along nicely. xoxo

    1. Sweet Sue - you are one of the few on our blogs who truly knows what the nova scotian air filled with salty ocean water can do for a soul! there are days when i just get caught in a trance breathing! can you believe i just said i get caught in a trance breathing - bahahahahah! but i do! and i am glad that you have a favourite beach too! and yes whenever we go down to the beach, jam does his work (getting rocks, sand or seaweed), then he takes some casts (trying to get more bass) and then we pick mussels. soul food i call it. i hope that your holiday preparations are moving along nicely too! i am excited by the new blog changes that you keep hinting at! i can't wait to see what you are up to! much love to you and RenoMan, hon! xoxo

    1. Fiona - you are sooo right - everything balances!!! and it used to be when we first got here that stuff blowing up or flooding or stuff like that freaked us out! now we just roll with the punches. septic surprise? no biggee. we just got some sound advice from a dear friend of ours and jam went to work. next up is the driveway from h*ll - bahahahahh! but our atv is in the shop and it'll be fixed up soon and jam will be out on it clearing the driveway and there will be no shoveling that driveway by hand this year. that, or we aren't going anywhere for 2 months - bahahahahah!

Fiona, there is so much good stuff here...so much.
