we've been busy since jambaloney got home....uh-huh....3 weeks ago! (hanging our heads in shame for not answering emails or updating posts here. yep, shame!)

it has been 3 weeks since we updated and we are hanging our heads in shame. we have received emails from several friends asking if we are ok and thinking to ourselves - "tomorrow we will answer those emails" - but it just hasn't happened! we have had several days that are muggy and humid...very unusual for around here. but we have been having very beautiful and sunny days too! and lots of dips in the river.

for those of you interested - jambaloney made it home safe and sound from ottawa. i lay on him for a few days and wouldn't even let him move to go for a pee or eat. yes, PP, i am a definite femi-nazi - bahahahahaha!

lotsa' food pics coming so just scroll right by if you aren't interested! our fave macaroni. with fresh chives, fresh garlic, tomatoes and parmesan:

how about our first full meal out of the garden? that's our own kale and peas, fresh out of the garden, sauteed in butter and some fresh radish from the garden as our breakfast:

a nice way to start the day, no?

some delicious panini-style sandwiches on greek pita with tomatoe, onion and garlic oil as the sauce, goat cheese brie and a ton of home-grown herbs? to die for i say:

more fresh peas and kale out of the garden, sauteed i butter, with a local and beautiful sausage (spicy but not too spicy? know what i mean?). and jambaloney's beautiful almond rice made in the rice cooker and some carrot and turnip kimchi....

our absolute favourite pasta. any kind of noodles, tons of garlic, tons of olive oil, sea salt and fresh-cracked black peppercorns, parmesan, fresh pea pods from the garden and our own home-made dill pickles - yummeh!

here's our first pea harvest being rounded up and ready to eat during the winter. we have been eating peas for every day (snap, shelling and snow) for weeks now. but now we are in the glut of them, including eating them at least with one meal a day (not to mention the ones we snack on every day!) - but these 8 servings are vaccuum-sealed and in the freezer for the winter months.

and the peas just keep on producing - wooho!

here's a delicious pea, radish and mint salad all from our garden. with feta - oh yummeh! and some french onion soup - now that's a dinner!

how about fresh peas in a stirfry with carrot slices and jamby's delicious rice?

how about curried potatoe, peas from the garden, carrot slices and jamby's delicious rice? with carrot and turnip kimchi as well as yoghurt with borage flowers?

borage flowers are one of the few, very unique plants on the planet that are truly blue. do a google search to find out more.

how about pea, potatoe, chickpea and carrot curry? served over rice with delicous, local apple and your own radish?

food fit for a king i would say.

and then there's personal pizzettes. this one is mine. a greek pita, slathered in garlic olive oil, bits of goat brie cheese spread around it, some greek feta, a little bit of parmesan, a layer of tomatoe, a ton of green and black olives, mozzarella and a bit more parmesan. deevine, i say. deevine!

our first full-grown zuchhini - woohoo! we have many more coming and we are thankful!

we decided to celebrate our first zuchhini. by sauteeing it with our home-grown peas in a bit of butter and some bean salad with peppers on the side. jambaloney thought we should have one of his awesomely-crazy caesar's to help wash it down! i concurred! it felt decadent!

some of you already know that we have been extremely busy in the garden, and in the community, since jambaloney returned from ottawa. he had a wonderful time and spent a good deal of time with his mom and step-dad and it meant the world to him. since he's back - we have been run off of our feet with community events, dances, suppers, breakfast, etc. so if you are wondering why we haven't posted lately - it's a case of - "we'll do it tomorrow" and tomorrow just kept turning into another tomorrow. but today. we realized that we really needed to do an update. hope you all have enjoyed the last few weeks. our garden is now upon us and as we want to preserve as much of our bounty as we can - we will be busy with it. but not too busy to answer comments or to leave comments.

we hope that all is well with all of you.

  1. good to see you back and look at all that lovely food. And all vegetarian. You don't miss the meat when your veggies are so fresh, right?

  3. Gurl you know we all understand when things start to snowball in the garden. Not much time to write here either and when I DO get to sit down and relax I usually end up dozing off.
I can't for the life of me have any sort of luck with peas. I've not given up yet. (You know I don't give up easy!) And I intend to try to put some in. I wonder if you can plant them in the fall garden?
I'll admit I miss hearing what ya'll are up to but it sure beats when you first moved to The Manor. That was what? Almost two years? So I had no doubt that you (like many of us) will surface when you can.
    Hugs to you and Jam,
    Sci

    1. Gurl - i know that most of the readers know that when the garden starts coming in it's work, work, work. but 3 weeks of not posting is a bit much. i know that i hate it when i haven't heard from favourite bloggers after a week and then i start to worry.

bahahahahahah - dozing off. you deserve a good doze after all the weeding and harvesting you have been doing. i don't know how you keep your garden so weed-free.

yes, try planting some peas for fall. they are the kind of veg who like it kinda coolish and maybe your summer weather is too warm for them. from what i gather, they like hot days and cooler nights. your summer nights just might not be cool enough for them. let us know how a fall planting of them goes.

ya, we disappeared for a full year and a bit when we first moved here - kept meaning to let people know where we were but were up to our eyeballs in all kinds of crazy. but we were so glad to re-connect with some of our friends - like you and Mars. thanks so much for never losing touch and always being there.

we both send much love and hugs back to both of you. xoxoxo

  5. But what if the Canadian version of the FBI have cast J and Kymber into a dungeon, and this is a clever ploy to smoke out all the States Rights folks they know by simulating their return? Didn't the Gestapo do something like that in WW2?

    Or was it the Abwehr?

All that food made me hungry. I went and looked in my ice box. Alas, I have only some frozen burritos, some eggs, and some hot dogs. Looks like it's canned stuff again for supper. Need to make a grocery run.

    1. crap Harry - you might be on to something seeing as how i worked for the canadian version of the FBI, the canadian version of the NSA, the canadian version of the CIA and the canadian version of your FinCEN?!?!?!? if anyone has a chip in their head - it's me!!!!!

listen mister - you need a bug out plan along with your bug in plan. go get yourself a reliable rv or 5th wheel. then move you and your family's butts up here. i promise to feed you all real good if we can get the kids to help out in the garden and you share us with hours a day of your knowledge and wisdom. seems like a good trade-off to me. much love to you and all of yours always, my friend. xoxoxoxo

  7. Glad everything is good with you folks. This is my first year growing Borage. It was looking a little puny with the heat we have been getting but it really perked up after I mulched it with some straw.

    1. jamie - plant borage everywhere that you can and let some go to seed to plant more next year. the beautiful blue flowers are edible and delicious but more importantly - all pollinators love borage - all solitary bees, mason bees, bumble bees and honey bees. in my mind - you can never have too much borage planted. and i will say it again girl...after catching up on your latest blog posts - can you please slow down a little and not make the rest of us feel like we are doing nothing in comparison to you. you are a work-horse!!!! much love hon! xoxoxox

  10. I was worried about you both. I would have thought you had gone silent and were hiding from Ebola except for the fact that your disappearance preceded all the media attention.
Glad you're home and okay and the food looks divine, as always.
