wanna see an amazing sunset? here ya go. my friend, JUGM, did a post about red skies at night and how they affect sailors...read the comment section of her post. her and i have a nice banter about sailors everywhere and our auntie's visiting...bahahahahah! sorry to the men who read here and don't want anything to do with that!

here's The Man, looking all hot, getting ready to go to our friend P's birthday party in our sister community of Fourchu last week. ladies - avert your eyes - he's MINE!!!

and here's me. yes, i've been called smurfette, short, tiny...and most recently my friend SciFiChick called me vertically-challenged. in fact, i think her exact words were "girl, i knew you were vertically-challenged but NOT THAT vertically-challenged!". i love her. but yes, i have a hit out on her.

here's some yummy bulgogi with rice, homegrown green beans sauteed in butter and some kimchi. nothing like it after a long day's work.

kids - can anyone help me identify these bushes? are they elderberry? we have been looking at pics on the internet and they seem to be elderberry but not sure.

if they are - can you say elderberry wine? elderberry tincture? elderberry tea??? oh kids, i know that you can!!!

i hate to sound smug....PioneerP, mmpaints and Sci - eat your heart out with envy. this was yesterday's harvest.

bahahahahahah! oh i know that it's sad but hey - at least it's something! until the end of august when our harvest will really come in. look what we made with our sad little harvest:\

and here's some more harvest - we are eating local food and our own harvest 3 meals a day. not too shabby!

we eat a lot of steak around here. it's local and delicious. the stir fry is all our own veg as are the tomatoes!

here's some quinoa tabouleh for dinner - yum!

more harvest. this is the time of year when we eat our own fresh, home-grown food daily and it feels wonderful!

local AND cheap sausages - they are sooo spicey and tasty!

and yummy potatoes pulled out of the ground, sliced and fried in butter! they are deelish! we are in for a super harvest of potatoes this year, which is a good thing, because we eat a LOT of potatoes. think of Bubba in the movie Forrest Gump - "fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, shrimp on the barbie....". well that's us except with potatoes "fried potatoes, smashed potatoes, potatoes on the barbie, baked potatoes, potatoes au gratin, scalloped potatoes, twice-baked potatoes..." - we loooove potatoes!!! bahahahahaha! i hope that you all had a nice weekend.

  1. Stop it you're making me hungry! Steak and 'taters, I'm on my way up : ) Ever try eggs, taters, and onions? One of my favorites! You could toss some other veggies in there too, and maybe some bacon, sausage... Now I'm making ME hungry!

  2. kymber- you might actually be shorter than me, lol. I'm 5'1"- higher or lower?

That doesn't look like any elderberry I've ever seen. Elderberry bunches are more like grapes, except tiny.

    1. Wendy - with my hair done proper, i can get at least an additional 3 inches - bahahahahah! yep - it looks like we are in a dead tie - i'm 5'1" as well....but i am sure there is a millimetre or two that has not been accounted for!

thanks for the advice on the elderberry. we were just pleased as punch to think that we had some on our land but i trust a seasoned expert like you!

  3. I have 3 elder berry bushes and the leaves look different. take a cutting to a nursery, they should be able to give you a positive ID

    1. Tina - thanks so much for commenting. we have some female matriarchs in our community who know everything about the fauna and flora around here. i will ask one of them. we were just so excited because we have never seen this plant on our land before this year. again - thanks for your comment. hope to see you around here more often - it sounds like you have wisdom to share!

  4. Sweet Kymber and Jambaloney,

Bulldog Man and I love your pictures, the two of you look so adorable all ready for the party. Kymber is this the dress Jam bought you? It's gorgeous!!!

Don't you just love eating foods you've grown in your own garden. Look at all these delicious meals, and healthy to boot.

How tall are you girl? Bulldog Man is 5 ft 4 in, is he taller than you?

I only think of Forest Gump when I think about our conversation of Jam running down to Oklahoma for green Chiles, lol. Yep.....he wasn't fast enough, bahahahahaha

I truly hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

    Your Friends,
    Sandy and Bulldog Man

    1. sweet Sandy AND The Bulldog Man - nice to see you - bahahahha! Sandy - jam bought me 3 dresses in ottawa - each dress cost $12 - not too shabby eh? his Mom took him to a store that she thought i would love and he got me those dresses and 2 awesome shirts! the fancy dress he got me (for $12), i will wear to the september 14 dance - i'll be sure to get a pic for you!

oh Sandy - eating stuff right out of the garden is so awesome! we have a bit of a time here due to our inexperience with the soil and salty air, etc. but it looks like this year we might get enough to do a lot of canning, dehydrating and freezing - fingers crossed!

teehee. i am 5'1" but i swear that the people who have measured me in my life have bad eye-sight and missed 3 or 11 millimetres - bahahahah!

ya - that was pretty funny when you called jam "Jamba Gump" - we've been laughing about it ever since!!! we have our own funny speak that are always inside conversations that no one ever gets. we've recently added "run, Jamba, run!" - bahahahah!

sweet Sandy - it has been a fabulous couple of days - visiting auntie or no visiting auntie! we were down at the river all afternoon today. we took "the yacht" out for a nice spin on the river. i am sure that you remember that "the yacht" is an ugly old 12ft aluminum boat, but it's ours, and we love it! wish you and The Bulldog could have been there with us! xoxoxo to you and The Bulldog!

  5. The berries don't look like elderberries and the pattern of the berries does not look like elderberries. Take some of the berries with you. Someone amongst your many friends should be able to tell you what they are if you don't have a nursery nearby. My friends don't know berries unless they are blueberries or blackberries. Don't eat them yet. You could pick them and store them in the freezer just in case they are something you can eat.

    1. Linda - thanks for chiming in! we were really just excited to find a pile of those plants on our land for the very first time!!! we were crossing our fingers that they were elderberries. oh well, eh?

that's a really good idea to show our friends. we have several matriarchs here who used to farm and forage, so they will definitely be able to identify the plant. we are going blueberry picking at our friends' farm this week - he, or our matriarchs should be able to identify it. i will make sure to do a post once we find out what it is. i sure do hope that it is edible - we love having wild food right on our land!

  6. Mrs. PP is like 4'10" and when I mentioned it she always screams "And a HALF". I was talking to a girl at a local store yesterday and she was cute and tiny when I asked how tall she was she said 4'9" and 1 millimeter. My son was like what's with the 1 millimeter when I said "Because 4'9" makes her eligible to be an official little person and she is in denial". The girl confirmed my suspicion when she said you had to be 4'9" or smaller.... wink.

So what have you got in your garden that is producing all those little red berries in that basket? They are too big for cherries and too red. Small round peppers? No they are too small for even jalapenos. Hmmmm what are those?

    2. PioneerP - i am happy to tell you that i am 5'1"!!! and i am sure there are extra millimetres that people with bad eye-sight haven't measured properly - bahahahaha! that's a cute story about the girl at the store!

stop laughing at my produce, Mister-i-have-enough-produce-to-got-to-the-market! it's not right to tease the less fortunate - bahahahah! i'll tell ya though - i think we'll have 200lbs of potatoes this year, plus another 20lbs in seed potatoe for next year. take that Mister!

Harry - my mom used to make sandwiches that looked like pieces of art. my brother used to sell his sandwiches - bahahahah! but kids always wanted to trade us for stuff. now way, jose, my mother's sandwiches were beautiful to look at and beautiful to eat! i never traded mine!

i wish you were closer. i'd feed ya good!

On a positive note, atleast you meet all height requirements for the rides at Disney..

thanks for the shout out, sorry it is a bit delayed getting back to you on that.
I recovered nicely from Aunties visit, hope you did too.

Gurlie - feed that man spagetti from a can, whack him upside the head with your glock and make him beg for the home-made mac and cheese.

(Senior - please don't read the above comment. oh crap, now i'm afeared for my life - bahahahahah!)

glad to hear that you're feeling better Gurl!

    2. Well not really feeling better..today I had to go to the dermatologist and have a butt ton of little growths removed..he either used liquid nitrogen that stung like a son of a *** or he used a laser to burn off the really smaller ones. or, he used a local on the really big ones and scrapped them off with a flat razor. either way it all hurt like Hell, and I look like I walked right in to a hornets nest. However, he promised by this time next week, I would look 10 years younger.. : ) so i guess the pain and agony today was worth it.

    3. oh Gurlie - yikes! i am really feeling for you! what the hell was all these growths? just little skin tag thingies or what? oh, i can't wait to see a pic of you next week! you were gorgeous to begin with but 10 yrs off that makes you 19 no? i feel so sorry or the balding ones, and the fat ones, and the ugly ones. woops - did i just say that? i don't really mean it you just have a tendency to bring out the bad in me - bahahahah!
